#5630 - c. 1950's CEIL CHAPMAN Ivory Satin Beaded Dress! Amazing!!!! This dress must have been "the" dress of the season, because this is the 3rd or 4th of this same dress I've seen (over my 12 years of business!).  That's rare to keep finding the same dress.... so either I'm looking out for it, or I keep selling the same dress over and over and over! :)Ceil Chapman WAS a popular designer... even Marilyn Monroe was a fan!!  Can't you just see her in this?  Sexy ivory silk satin dress with asymmetrical bodice and sarong look skirt... which gives the impression of the entire dress wrapped around the body ... like a bath towel just waiting to "oops"... slip off!!!! Just held up by two skinny little spaghetti straps. However, this is just an illusion. The dress is a "faux" wrap, metal zipper up the back and I promise it won't fall off... sorry, men!!!! The beading is intense... all sorts of beads and rhinestones in a nearly lacey looking design. Measurements coming... but it's small.... likely a 0/2 size. Excellent condition with the exception of a small spot on front and minor issues elsewhere.... info coming.  The BEST Ceil Chapmen you will ever find!!!  NEW LISTING! Also Listed in the Wedding Category.

#6735 - c. 1930's MORTON BREGMAN Art Deco 2-piece Deep Cranberry Crepe Outfit! GREAT WEARABLE SIZE! I have to say upfront that this is probably the my favorite 1930s daywear "dress" I have ever sold! I'm sure just by showing this on my website, that the extraordinary treatment of the sleeves will be "stolen" by modern day designers!  But you know what they say... "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery"! Sadly I can find little information on Morton Bregman (obviously he deserves more attention!), but what I did find is was that as early as a Harpers Bazaar article in 1946, that Morton Bregman was already considered a fashion icon (along with the likes of Adrian and Hattie Carnegie).  And in 1955, Morton Bregman Spring collection pieces cost $49.95 -  $169.95, with a few higher priced  1955... that's when new houses averaged $16,000!!!!  OK, so now for the outfit.  Start with a lovely colored deep cranberry crepe fabric which is slightly sheer. Then add 40 (yup, 40) silver floral buttons (so you will NOT be able to undress quickly!).  Fully horizonal pleated top with diagonally pleated long sleeves (zipper cuffs).  High tie neck.  Long slim skirt with side metal zipper. Measures:  40" bust, up to 31" waist, up to 39" hips, 29.5" long from waist to hem. Excellent condition.  The only slight issues (if you care) is slight sheen from iron and the tiniest pinholes only seen when you hold the dress up to the light.  Hardly worth mentioning unless you are a perfectionist.  DO NOT HESITATE! (oh and please don't pay attention to the fact that the skirt is on backwards! Eek!)    NEW LISTING!

#6859 - c. 1930's Sheer White Silk Gauze Gown with Printed Tiny Blue Bows and Dots! So sweet! Looks like it just stepped out of a 1930s movie.  This gown is very sheer... so I'm showing it over one of my Edwardian princess slips (which means you are seeing a hint of yellow ribbon through the bodice and need the hemline... there is NO yellowing in the dress... it's just the slip showing through!).  The dress is Excellent, near mint condition with just one issue... and that is a small hole on the skirt at the back (see last two photos).  As you can see, I photographed the same area over the white slip, and then just over my hand... and that's the difference... now you see it... now you don't!  :)  Side metal zipper.   Measures:  35" bust, up to 28" waist, up to 45" hips, 57"- 63" long... shorter at sides, longer in front and back.  Gives you that draped look which still letting you walk.  Love the puffed sleeves, yoke neckline, gathered bustline, empire tailoring, "v" waist at front, and back tie.  So sweet it makes your teeth hurt! :)   NEW LISTING!

#5703 - c. 1960's Periwinkle Raw Thai Silk Hostess Dress with Matching Scarf/Stole! Remember when having guests over meant dressing up?  Some of you might only know that from movies and TV shows like "Mad Men".  Ooh, and wouldn't Betty Draper look fabulous in this? (for those of you who haven't seen "Mad Men"... get the DVDs!!!).   Periwinkle (lavender blue) raw Thai silk dress with fitted bodice with gold decorative design at "v" neckline and edge of scarf. The skirt is moderately full and open at both sides with large matching buttons which can be closed all the way, or open to reveal cigarette pants or an interesting underskirt, or whatever you want!  Comes with matching scarf/stole (which is slightly raw at the edges) which can be worn a bunch of different ways.  Dress looks great on.  Shown with a bit of a crinoline (doesn't come with it).  Measures: 34/35" bust, 26/27" waist, 29.5" long from waist to hem.  Metal zipper at side.  62" x 18.5" scarf. #6868 - c. 1960's REVILLON, Paris, New York Genuine Beaver Fur Zipper Front Vest! ABSOLUTELY Back in STYLE!!  No longer just for Sonny Bono (1960's Sonny & Cher) fans... you will see these fur vests on the runways and on the streets and it's considered a "must have" for this coming season!  Here's your history lesson if you don't know Revillon (a top-end name in furs!!). Revillon, which was founded in Paris in 1723 and has been operating in the United States since 1875, had fur salons in Saks Fifth Avenues for 32 years (from 1963 - 1995). The House of Revillon, based in Paris, is still renown for luxury and fashion furs. I wish you could feel this fur!  SOOOOOOO thick and soft! I can't stop petting it!!!!   I've felt some modern beaver furs that just don't feel half as nice.  There is a heavy zipper that is hidden up the front (though you will see the zipper tab at bottom.  The high neck will help to keep you warm.  You can wear this open as well... and will look just as great.  Silver tipped color with golden taupe base.  LOVELY!  Wear with a turtleneck or any sweater with nice sleeves (that's how I like it, but you might have some fashionable ideas that I'm too old to conjure up in my ancient brain).  Excellent condition with just minor wear at the zipper front and bit of a balding very small area INSIDE WHEN WORN at back mid high neck (hardly worth mentioning).  The lining has a few small areas of thinning (mostly inside hemline).  There is a monogram inside of VG. Small pocket inside lining.  Measures: up to 43" bust, 45" around the hemline,  28" long from shoulder to hem. Worth 4 times this price... at least - I just bought it right!! #6379 - c. 1980's BILL BLASS Black Silk Chiffon Nude Bustier Gown!  For my website groupies (and I do have them!), you might remember this gown which I sold in 2001.  I've always loved it, and when the chance came to sell it again... well, I'm proud to offer it up to the next gal who wants to sex up her black tie event with a top designer gown!  Black silk chiffon covered from strapless bustier top to lower hip with black soutache lace on sides and back.  In front is a cascade of black chiffon from satin bow.  The bodice (as you see) is a nude lined boned bustier with another satin bow.  Likely from the 80's when Madonna bustier dressing was "in".   And as you know... the 80's are BACK!   Can't be more wonderful on.  You'll have to trust me on this.  The interior low back boned bra gives you all the lift you need. Awesome!  Excellent condition with one spot that will need a spot cleaning.  If I get a chance to get this cleaned at the specialty cleaners, I will.  Or I'm reducing by $100 to give you $$ to get it done yourself.  Measures:  33-35" bust, 25/26" waist, up to 38" hips, 47" long from mid=bust to hem.  The zipper is a bit sticky, but works.  NEW LISTING!

#5701 - c. 1970's (?) Cranberry Bias Cut Gown!  OK... I have to tell you that I'm not sure if this is 1970s or perhaps 1990s with a 70's look.   Doesn't really matter all that much.  There was a label at one point, but it was cut off, and no other labels, so how 'bout I just say "it's vintage".  That way I can't be wrong! :)  You KNOW how much I hate to be wrong! :)   The color is somewhere between a cranberry and an raspberry depending on the light.  It's probably a synthetic fabric, but that's about all I can tell you. Perfect weight for this shape gown.  Love the low "v" waist at front and back to give you that perfectly shaped body. Though you will want to be young and "perky" as there is no easy way to wear a bra. You can wear the back spaghetti straps crossed (as you see) or straight down. Back zipper. Measures:  58" long from shoulder to hem.  To make sure it will fit you, just send me your measurements as it's bias.... I will check for you.  Not much else to tell you.  Excellent condition. #9975d - c. 1930's "Bonnie Parker" Cornflower Blue Colored Hand Knitted Outfit! With Matching Beret and Small Clutch!  From one estate, I have a few hand-knitted outfits (professional quality knitting) with that great 1930's "Bonnie and Clyde" gun moll look!  None of them are in mint condition.  Each have some problems... so these are great for costumes, or to wear anywhere if you just don't need to be perfect.  This is one of the best!  Great cornflower blue color wool knit skirt with matching overhead "v" neck sweater top with matching knit belt.  Comes with a great matching pierced knitted beret and small knitted zipper top clutch purse! This outfit is in pretty great condition other than the stains.  As you will see from the photos, one sleeve especially has dark marks (like a strange rusty transfer design from something it might have been stored with), and there is one similar spot on upper back skirt.  The purse is very dirty, so the color is darker, the belt buckle is slightly worn.  Otherwise it's quite good (one teeny teeny hole in skirt that one stitch will fix).   However it is musty and will need to be aired out, or fabreezed.  I leave that choice to you.  The skirt waist is elastic.  Measures: 33-35" bust (tight on 35"), 24-32" elastic waist skirt, up to 40" hips, 28" long skirt. NEW LISTING!  Under $150 so final sale.

#5624 - c. 1933-1935 Gown with Matching Jacket of Ivory Silk Brocade! With Provenance!  I have so many website groupies who always ask about great 1930's gowns!  So when I'm lucky enough to find this gown with original jacket ... along with the original wedding photo... well....  Whoopie! :)  But you don't have to be a bride to wear it and love it!!!!  A lovely ivory silk brocade gown with the exact shape that you are likely seeking... sleeveless and low "v" neck... and, of course, bias cut skirt to hug the body as you see.  Comes also with the original thin matching belt (which just snaps closed, but you can buy a great 30s rhinestone belt buckle for pizazz).  The jacket can be worn, or not... as you wish.  Just make sure you have someone to help you with all the buttons!!!   Since bias, this will fit a few different sizes.. but the jacket waist is currently 29" (though buttons could be moved a bit). Side snaps on the gown. The bride was Beth Levin of Boston.  Married on Dec. 29th (the son is not sure of the year, 1933-1935).  The family business was in the landmark "Dainty Dot" building in Boston.  And younger brother, Sam went to Boston Latin school with Leonard Bernstein! They remained friends for many years later.  The gown is probably from a dressmaker.  No labels inside.  But nicely done as this was quite a "well-to-do" family... who thought nothing of visiting Miami in the 30s, travelling on the transatlantic expensive Queen Mary ship to Paris, flying Air France and visiting Venice in the 50s.  This was when my parents were struggling to pay for my Father's 30 cent train fare in the 50s!!  The gown is a bit limp when not worn, and has extreme minor spots (see photos).  The only real issue is the musty smell which I will be airing out for you! I will continue to update this listing when the odor has disappeared.   NEW LISTING!  Also Listed in the 1930-Today Category.

#5119 - c. 1990's DONNA KARAN Black Evening Gown with Black Beaded Trim!  This high-end Donna Karan gown came from the same person as the Isabel Toledo outfit below.  She worked as a buyer for a top department store so had access to the best of the best... and sample gowns or one-of-a-kind.  This Donna Karan gown is wonderfully unique!  The bodice is a normal boned strapless silk with extremely elegant black bugle beads... and then the rest of the gown is softly padded ... feels like a cotton batting inside to give the gown an "A" shape yet allows the the exterior layer of silk chiffon to cascade, giving an ethereal, flowing look over a gown with body!  Magnificent feel to the gown!! I only wish you could reach through your computer screen to touch it.... without going through a time warp or getting yourself electrocuted.  Someday they will figure out how to accomplish that, but in the meantime you just have to take my word for it.  Measures: 32/33" bust, 51" long from shoulder to hem. Museum Packing Dress

#5126 - c. 1986 RARE ISABEL TOLEDO "Packing Skirt" of Red and Black Linen with Original Matching Black Knit Top with Red Linen Collar! Museum Worthy! Wow... what a great find!  Most people never heard the name "Isabel Toledo" until Michelle Obama wore a lemongrass yellow outfit for the inauguration of her hubby.  All of a sudden she was a household name!  However, it was back in 1985 when Isabel Toledo presented her first collection. So she was an overnight sensation nearly 25 years in the making!  Most recently the Museum at F.I.T., New York held a Isabel Toledo exhibit entitled “Fashion From the Inside Out”.  Seems that both Isabel's and  Museum Director, Dr. Valerie Steele's favorite piece is the Packing Dress from 1988, which has "since been born again in many incarnations. It's essentially two circular pieces of fabric that mysteriously, yet simply, come together with blurred lines. Imagine a garment that mimics the point where the ocean and sand come together at the beach, that spot where one can no longer define where one ends and the other begins". HOWEVER, seems this dress started as a skirt concept, because as written in October 31, 1986:  "Isabel Toledo, 22, whose business is only three seasons old.... Among the more directional styles she will show for spring is a double-circle skirt she calls a "packing skirt" because it lies flat when not worn". And as Dr. Steele said, "I think one of the most important designs that I really wanted to get for the museum was her packing dress that is shaped like a doughnut, the pattern is round with a hole cut in, and it can be worn back to front, front to back and upside down. It’s a very kind of Balenciaga looking dress, yet it can be packed flat into a little folded package. I think this is one of the most important designs Isabel did".  So... this is a MUSEUM PIECE!  Near Mint condition. Linen and silk knit.  Measures: 24" waist, 19" long skirt, stretch top best for Small.  It's an OLD size 6! The red belt did not come with it, but matches great, so I'm throwing it in.  FYI, Couture Isabel Toledo pieces sell new for $2770-$5500+ !  This is certainly more special than any of those as the revolutionary designed "Packing Dress" forerunner! NEW LISTING!   Also Listed in the Museum Category.

Measures:  32/33" bust, 24" waist, up to 33/34" hips, 21" long from natural waistline to hem. Labeled size 4, but hell... it ain't anymore! #6801 - c. 1960's Doris Duke's Russian Sable Lined Gold Silk Satin Evening Coat!   Doris Duke was dubbed at birth "the richest girl in the world", and it was true! And that continued through her life, so at one point she was said to be the 3rd richest woman in the world, behind Queen Elizabeth of England and Queen Juliana of the Netherlands  When she died in 1993, she was said to be worth $2 Billion... back when that was still a lot of money! :) Reports claim she had $1 million a week in expendable income!!  NICE!! So even though she liked a good bargain, she certainly had the best!  So, ta-da, I present to you her Russian sable lined gold satin coat.  The full sable lining (excluding the sleeves, so it's a long vest) is worn next to your skin... ooh!... and is totally removable with buttons!  So remove and sleep on it if you so desire! :)  Or wear it under some other coat (use this gold satin as a pattern, or design your own). As you can see, the sable peeks out at collar, cuffs, down front and then extends 10" below the outercoat hemline. The sleeves are lined in silk quilting.  Sable is in Excellent condition!  The satin coat has a few scattered small spots and one small tear (see photos) at upper bust (likely where the coat was grabbed by a too sharp fingernail, or torn on a brooch). No closures, meant to be clutched! :)  Measures:  57" long from shoulder to hem. NOTE: A 1958 Time Magazine article quotes a sable-lined raincoat costing $15,000... back in 1958!!!!  NEW LISTING!   Also Listed in the Furs, etc. Category.

If not, you need an art history class!)... or see Stephen Sondheim's "Sunday In the Park with George"..... oh and did you know Sondheim's father, Herbert, was a high-end dress manufacturer??See what you learn just by reading my "blogs"! :)    Anyway, great 60's gown in that classic column shape, beautiful neckline, empire waist with the lovely orange velvet wrapped bow.  Back zipper.  Excellent condition. #6634 - c. 1983-1994 JACQUELINE de RIBES, Make in France Black Linen Dress!  From a PEOPLE Magazine, Dec 1985 article: One of  "Paris' legendary beauties, the Vicomtesse Jacqueline de Ribes' sophisticated line ($1,000 to $8,000) is sold in major department stores coast to coast.  De Ribes is not the first lady of means to peel off her evening gloves and join fashion's working class. In fact, designing socialites are all the rage. Diane Von Furstenberg,  Gloria Vanderbilt, and her friend Carolina Herrera, who, like de Ribes, is a member of the best-dressed Hall of Fame. Her celeb clients include Cher, Nancy Reagan and Joan Collins." So... I always seek out the best de Ribes dresses.  There are many I don't personally like, but when she designed well... she could rival Balenciaga!  This is one of those... a simple, yet stunningly tailored summer black linen dress with back zip and black buttons at back wide straps.  Dropped waistline with slightly gathered skirt.   Near perfection!  Measures: 36" bust, up to 30" waist, up to 35" dropped waist (3.5" below natural waistline), up to 38" hips, 41" long from shoulder to hem. Beautifully made, hand stitched zipper, fully lined. My last Antiquedress.com Jacqueline de Ribes fancy dress sold for $5,000! For the woman who understands "less is more"! :)   NEW LISTING!

#5037 - c. 1990's OBNIBENE ZENDMAN, Made in Rome, Italy Cashmere 2-piece Suit!  100% Cashmere! You likely never heard of Ognibene Zendman, a fashion house designing simple, clean and slightly masculine creations using muted colors, founded in 1965 (OK, perhaps you have, but I hadn't... though just touching this 100% cashmere fabric will put you in ecstasy!!).  So I did a bit of research since I was told this label was quite expensive, high-level ready-to-wear sold at prestigious stores such as Bergdorf Goodman, Saks, Neiman Marcus and Elizabeth Adren salon on Rodeo Drive.   In a 1986 article, I read:  "Ognibene Zendman prices average $650 for a wool day dress to a top price of $6,000 for an evening ensemble.  Zendman is the American-born partner behind the Ognibene Zendman label, who worked under the late Cristobal Balenciaga (whoo-whoo!) for 5 1/2 years before teaming 20 years ago with his Italian-born counterpart. Clients, who have included film stars, royalty and other celebs (mega-millionaire Doris Duke).... and now YOU! :)  Now, on to the suit.  AGAIN... SOFTEST 100% CASHMERE, windowpane checked double-breasted jacket of taupe and off-white with solid wide taupe lapels to match the solid taupe skirt. As you can see, to update the look, I just added a quick WRONG white belt just so you can see how it will look. I'm a belt person, so you might like it without.  See all the photos.  Fully silk lined.  So this suit would have likely been $2,000ish in the 1980's!!! And is still in near Mint condition! Measures: up to 42" bust, up to 41" waist, up to 44" hips BOXY jacket, 26" waist skirt, up to 37.5" hips skirt, 22" long skirt.   If you don't like suits, think of this as 2 great designer separates!!!  NEW LISTING!

#5073 - c. 1991 (?) BOB MACKIE Beaded Bodice Ballgown! Same Exact Gown Worn to the Oscars by Debbie Allen - we believe in 1991 or 1992 (still seeking photos of her in this gown, but confirmed she wore it by Bob Mackie's company!). This gown was Never Worn!  OK, it's not one of those slinky sexy nearly nude Mackie "Cher" gowns... but it's still one of the early Mackie gowns (as the bodice is still fully beaded on netting) and frankly one of the few early ballgowns I've seen!  And what a unique material on that skirt!!!  Wonderfully changeable taffeta of gold, green, pink and lavender with surprising, nearly phantom triangle designs that complement the sunburst designs of the bodice! Or if you prefer... rather than sunburst, these could also be mechanical gears.. great for charity balls with themes that will work with this bodice design! :)  Back zip.  Has lots of petticoat attached under to give the skirt its shape! Measures: 32/33" bust, up to 26.5" waist, 13.5" neck, 57" long from shoulder to hem (great for 5'2" with 3" heels) or 5'5" with flats to just sweep the ground.  Love the pocket in the skirt!  Totally unexpected, but great to have!  Mint condition, never worn!!  The only thing to mention is that it has very tight arms and tight under the arms, so you will want to be thin, small boned for this, but it will NOT overwhelm! Cost over $7,000 new!  Never Worn, so as new!! I have quite a few expensive designer suits and separates from the 1980's from two Long Island Gold Coast estates. Most all in sizes 4-8, so I'm working as fast as I can to photograph them to get them up on the website, but I'm only one person, so there aren't enough hours in the day.  So.... if you are in the market for store stock and want to buy in bulk... I'm your man (er, woman). For those of you who prefer to pick and choose... keep checking back!   This is one of my favorites in it's simplicity and elegance! VERY lady-like.  Very wealthy looking (not to mention it was certainly expensive when new).  Slightly boxy fit to jacket. Pencil skirt. Measures: up to 36/37" bust, 27.5" waist, up to 37" hips, 21" long from shoulder to jacket hem, 21" long from waist to skirt hem.  The sleeves will fit a shorter gal best in length.  Excellent condition. Comes with the ivory silk tank top blouse.  Perhaps not original to the suit, but great with it. If you don't like suits, think of this as 3 great designer separates!!! :) NEW LISTING!

#5025 - c. 1980's UNGARO PARALLELE Black and White Checked Wool Suit with Great Details! I had to show you the back of this suit even before showing you the front because... well... I shouldn't have to tell you, you can see it!  The back is tailored to look like it's being pulled together with the short tied bow at back, creating a little peplum.  And then the lower back of the skirt has a sweet ruffle at the bottom of the hourglass shaped skirt!   The shoulders of this suit are particularly squared with shoulder pads.  The front of the jacket crisscrosses to close with double "v" at bottom, and double breasted buttons.  Please note, my mannequin has a bit of a humpback (don't laugh, she's very sensitive about this!!), so the jacket doesn't fit her as well as it will fit you at upper back.   Excellent condition.  Measures:  34" bust, 26" waist, up to 37.5" hips.  Sleeves are fairly short, so best for petite gal, or think of them as bracelet length. If you don't like suits, think of this as 2 great designer separates!!!  NEW LISTING!

#5144 - c. late 1980's/early 1990's LANVIN, Paris Charcoal and White 3-piece Skirt Suit Featuring Fox Trimmed Cape! Oozing with class and wealth!  Yes, you can look like a well-heeled socialite with just the right "threads".  I always wondered why wealthy people looked wealthy.  Now I know after trying this on myself, looking in the mirror and realizing even I could fool the Town and Country set in this!  The Lanvin suit is nice, but it's the fox trimmed matching cape that is killer!!  This is not a cape you drop off at the coat check... no... you wear it, wrap it, and just act cold so you can keep it on no matter what!  If you get a hot flash... suffer through it! Oh, and don't confuse this fox trim with the new ones you see today.  This is twice the fur!  Charcoal and white flannelish (is that a word??) polkadotted fabric of mid-weight wool (see closeup to see the look of the fabric).  The trim on the jacket is of an abstract design.  Padded shoulders. Wide waisted skirt. Labeled size 42. Measures:  up to 37" bust, 29.5" waist skirt, 22" long skirt from top of waist, 17.5" long jacket from shoulders, 17" across back of jacket, 18" across shoulders, 78" x 42" triangular cape. #5674 - c. 1950's HARVEY BERIN by KAREN STARK Champagne Colored Silk Satin Dress Covered with White Lace! You should go look through some old Vogue Magazines to see just how good this label is!  However some Harvey Berin dresses seem better than others.. like this one! Yummy champagne colored silk satin dress covered almost everywhere with a off-white lace.  Pretty enough to wear for a second wedding or any fancy event.  It's not perfect though, as there are some lightl underarm stains on just the satin portion of the tiny cap sleeves (you can find matching lace to cover these and then it's nearly Mint).  Other than that, I found on tiny light spot on the back skirt satin.. can't even find it unless looking.  Measures: 34" bust, 27" underbust (ribcage), 26" waist, 28" long from waist to hem. Back metal zipper.  Fits nearly off the shoulder.  I added a crinoline under, but doesn't come with it... and nicely wearable either way. Price reflects the underarm issue...  otherwise would be twice the price!  NEW LISTING!

#5060 - c. 1980's CLAIRE, Paris, Made in France - Bergdorf Goodman on the Plaza, New York Soft Pink Wool and Cashmere Swing Coat! I really want you to see the side and back photos of this coat so you can see the fun swing shape! But meanwhile I had to show you the uniquely design at front.   Beautifully lightly pleated around neck and down the front, with matching rope ties with great goldtone coneshaped ends.  Even the sleeves are full though gathered at the cuffs.  Diagonal slash pockets. Shoulderpads. Nice horizontal seam at upper back. Fully lined in pink satin.  Can be worn by many different sizes as it's nearly like a cape. Measures:  108" around hemline.  Condition is nearly Excellent depending how picky you are, as there are some moth nips (not holes) here and there (see photos) on back sleeve, upper back, and back just below neckline... and one extremely light small dirt on front (see photo - probably won't see it, but I tried in the middle close-up photo).  Would have been quite expensive at Bergdorfs! #5042 - c. 1980's GEOFFREY BEENE Brown and White Tweed Suit! This is one of those suits that is almost more like a winter dress... meaning put on your bra, the jacket, the skirt and you are dresses to go! Actually I just lied, because you might want to add a thin brown belt (please not the white one I show in my photos so you can see the detailing).  Probably originally came with a belt, but it's missing.  Sorry!  However how hard can it be to find a simple brown belt???  Geoffrey Beene has a following, so for you Beene collectors out there... check out the tailoring of this jacket (see close-up photos).  Brown leather buttons.  Fairly short skirt.  Measures:  34/35" bust, 27" waist, up to 38" hips, 19" long skirt.  This has longer sleeves than many of the other pieces from this estate, but not gorilla length... just long enough for a non-petite woman. Yup, it's a suit.  However, the skirt as those pesky yellow spots here and there that are hard to clean. But you might have just the right anti-yellowing formula.  Meanwhile, I've decided that the jacket is great enough to sell alone, and I'm throwing the skirt in with the deal.  How's that, eh?  The only issues are inside the the jacket with some reddening of the bottom of the lining (see photos) and slight dirt inside collar... obviously neither an issue when worn.  All you need is a black pair of pants and you are smashing. Great Chanel goldtone buttons! NEW LISTING!

As I read online, "Her unique and extravagant creations have remained synonymous throughout the fashion industry, reflecting true glamour worthy of the Red Carpet."  I have to agree with that with this outfit!  Purple silk strapless dress with an "Indian" influenced gold jeweled trim at upper bodice.  Lovely on its own, but then you get the matching silk organdy wrap coat that can be worn open (like a swing coat) or use the matching wide scarf to wrap yourself like a present for casual glamour!!  You can use the scarf any other way you like.. long and wide at 11" x 88"!  Measures: 33/34" bust, up to 26.5" waist, up to 37" hips, 18" long from natural waist to hem. #5675 - c. 1960's MIKE BENET FORMALS Pink Sequin and Satin Gown! I am always asked to find gowns that have that "Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina" look... you know, that incredible Givenchy gown she wore on the tennis court ... with that full back overskirt over a straight sheath skirt. Well... voila... they are hard to find, but here's a pretty version by Mike Benet (known for evening gowns).  The closeup photos will show you the meandering design of the pink sequins all over.  Nice simple scoop neck, lower in the back.  The overskirt is attached to the sequin skirt in the fold (see photos), so you can't totally ruffle it out as Audrey did! :)  But I'll bet hers cost about $10,000 more than this dress! :) Labeled size 16, but that is an OLD 16, so don't believe it today! Measures: 39" bust, 32" waist, up to 42" hips, 54" long from shoulder to hem, 17" from shoulder to waist.  Back zipper. #4506 - c. 1935 Black Floral Printed Lace Gown with Black Silk Chiffon and Matching Jacket!  Yowsa! I just love finding complete outfits with matching coats or jackets!  So often the pieces have lost their mates over the years. However, here is this lovely bias seagreen and light green deco floral print draping bodice gown with black chiffon skirt insets.  Very good condition as there is a bit of wear at the armholes (see photos) and light staining on the front light green bodice inset (see photos).  Otherwise, terrific.  You can certainly fix the underarms with a few stitches, and cover the insert with a matching piece of material to cover staining.  Inotherwords... you can make this look near perfect with just a bit effort.  Measures:  up to 36" bust, up to 40" hips, 57" long from shoulder to hem.  I photographed it sweeping the ground and also worn by a taller gal which would look equally good at up to ankle length with strapy or T-strap shoes showing.    NEW LISTING!

#5065 - c. 1990's LANVIN, Paris Turquoise and White Raw Silk Striped Blouse! First off, I LOVE turquoise! So this is one of those pieces I thought I could keep for myself, but again, since I live now in bathrobe and slippers (that's what happens when you spend so much time photographing and updating this website!), it's just too nice to leave in my closet.  It needs to be worn by some high-powered woman (or those of you who are seeking the blouse to immediately evoke that image!).  An updated classic, Parisian designer substantial (not a thin silk) raw silk blouse in crisp stripes! I show with a belt that doesn't come with it... just so show how it might look belted or tucked in.  Love the horizontal striped sleeves with cuffs to turn up and high collar to turn up if you want.  Excellent condition.  Marked size 36, but it's quite large!!  Lanvin blouses seem to cost $1,000-2,000+ new! My favorite quote from a Vogue Magazine article read, "When a friend calls to say she just got three dresses, each under $400…I do fashion math. Three trendy dresses x $400=$1,200, or one Lanvin blouse that can be worn forever. Shouldn’t I be saving for the blouse?"  My answer after seeing this perfect Lanvin blouse.... YES!  NEW LISTING!

#6588- c. 1969 EISA (by BALENCIAGA) Spring Green Wool Tweed Skirt Suit! Yeah, it took me years to figure out that EISA was actually Balenciaga... so I'm telling you so you can be smarter than I was! :)  Here's what you should know from VFG Label Resource:  "Cristóbal Balenciaga opened Eisa in San Sebastian, Spain in 1917.  Branches of Eisa were opened in the 30's in Madrid and Barcelona. The beginning of the Spanish Civil War in 1936 caused Balenciaga to leave Spain for Paris. During the civil war, the Eisa stores were closed, but when the war ended, in 1939, they reopened.  Eisa was a profitable business for the designer because this label had loyal customers from the Spanish aristocracy and from American customers. Balenciaga himself managed his Eisa shops with the help of his assistants until Eisa was closed in 1968."  Now this suit has a tag hanging reading "J.J. Garland, May 1969." I can't tell you what that means, but there it is!  Measures: 41" bust, 29" waist, up to 40" hips, 29" long skirt with 2.5" hem. Should cost much more, but the price reflects minor, minor small spots here and there and tears in lining underarms and at hemline. NEW LISTING!

#5082 - c. 1990 ISABELL KRISTENSEN, London Purple "Ballywood" Beaded Jacket and Golden Overlay Evening Skirt!  This jacket and coordinated evening skirt came to me directly from the original owner who had this made specifically for her by Isabell Kristensen! So it is, indeed, HAUTE COUTURE.  Ms. Kristensen has dressed Nicole Kidman, Shania Twain, Ivanka Trump, Liza Minnelli, Katy Perry, Paris Hilton... and now you! As I read online, "Her unique and extravagant creations have remained synonymous throughout the fashion industry, reflecting true glamour worthy of the Red Carpet."  I got a few of her pieces from this owner. This was designed well before the current Ballywood look in vogue, and long after the Indian influence was popular in the late 1960's/early1970s. So I'm not sure what influenced this look in 1990, but it's certainly unique!! Although meant to be worn together, I think it's frankly even more smashing to wear separately. The jacket alone would be fabulous over skinny jeans or even worn as a dress (with slip under as it's open at the bottom). And the two-layered gossamer lame over purple satin skirt would be great with just a simple tank top or silky halter. Wide shoulders are back in vogue now.  Large heart-shaped goldtone buttons complete the magical look.  Measures:  34" bust, 26.5" waist, 34" long jacket, 38" long skirt. Excellent condition with just minor re-tacking of beading on jacket needed. NEW LISTING!

#6719 - RARE c. 1950's JEAN DESSES, Paris Numbered Couture Black Chiffon "Petal" Dress!  One of my most favorite pieces ever!!  Awesome black silk chiffon party dress by the renowned Parisian designer, Jean Dessès  This splendid dress is from a superb estate including the presumed elaborately beaded Norman Hartell dress below.  This dress is in OUTSTANDING, like-new condition, with the only flaw being two teeny pinprick-sized holes to the front neckline, where likely a large brooch was once pinned on, and one short slit in upper back (see photos - in bottom layer of chiffon), and the slightest "white dust" in a small area on the skirt (see photo). The dress is a boned silk taffeta and chiffon bodice above a stunningly pleated silk chiffon skirt with literally HUNDREDS of individually finished and applied silk chiffon "petals". The hand-craftsmanship is simply amazing: absolutely top-quality in every way.  Back metal zipper. Measures:  34/35" bust, 25" waist, up to 41" hips, 43" long from shoulder to hem. NEW LISTING! #6723 - c. 1957 Superbly Beaded Satin Cocktail Dress... possibly NORMAN HARTNELL! My "expert" dated this dress to 1957 and suggested the possible designers could be Mainbocher or Norman Hartnell. I first thought of Hartnell when I saw the dress.  Whoever the designer was (and it just kills me that the label is gone), it is one of the most extraordinary beading you will find on any dress of the era! Intricate variety of types of beads with 3-D shells evoking the sea... so the satin "sailor" collar with bow seem a perfect match.  Back metal zipper. Measures: 35/36" bust, 26" waist, 45" long from shoulder to hem, 30" long from waist.  Shown with a crinoline under - as it should be worn. Excellent condition with minor bruising of the satin. #6800 - c. 1950 MIMI TUTHILL Inc., New York Black Silk Satin Petal Gown!  Deaccessioned from a Museum - Donated by Mrs. Frank Dowd! I fell in love with this gown as it could have just as easily been a Charles James gown with that fabulous architectural stiffened scalloped tiered skirt shorter at the front, and longer at the back!! Fitted bodice with tiny spaghetti straps. Side metal zipper. If you added the proper full crinoline.. it would look even more spectacular!  Measures:  36" bust, 26" waist, 51" long from shoulder to hem in front, 60" long in back. Now, I have to tell you what this dress needs.... a seamstress.  At some point, someone tried to increase the side of the bodice a bit, so you will see that the zipper is a bit messy, and the material under the arms needs to be re-sewn. I can't quite figure out why it would come from a museum like this, but hey... what-ever! It shouldn't be hard for someone who knows what they are doing... unlike me who can't sew on a button without sewing it to my pants knee! :)  Other than that, there is minor "white dust" in a small area on the skirt (see photo).  A gorgeous gown with a "couture" look! Excellent condition excluding a few minor issues.  There is a small hole at the back of the dress just below the strap (will disappear if backed with black velvet).  Approx 3-4 of the tiny beads are missing at the neck of the jacket and there are minor loose threads on one “spray” of beads of the lush jacket. #6798 - c. 1960 Black Chantilly Lace Stiff Skirt Party Dress with Aubergine Bodice Lining from Museum! Ah, another one of those dresses that you'd expect to find a designer label... but no labels exist... that is except for the museum tag which dates this dress to 1960 and was given to the museum by Mrs. Wallace Gibbs.  Black Chantilly Lace boat neck bodice lined in an aubergine taffeta.  The skirt is masterful... a stiffened circle surrounded with ruched black silk with lace at lower portion... and prettied up with a large matching black bow.  Back metal zipper over snaps.  Excellent condition... The only issue is that the skirt needs to be professionally steamed back into shape.. and the taffeta under at back is slightly discolored (not seen under lace)... oh and the brass metal zipper is slightly sticky.  I love the slightly low waistline to show off the slender figure before you get to the poufy skirt! #6623 - RARE c. 1954 BALMAIN's "Jolie Madame" Opulent Light Blue Silk Satin Beaded Ballgown!  This absolutely stunning French couture ballgown by Pierre Balmain is made of the most luxurious materials and of the finest craftmanship from his "Jolie Madame" collection. There is a gold chainstitch inscription of this in the inner skirt of the dress.  A bit of history.... In 1947 Balmain opened a boutique on the ground floor of his couture house, which he named "Jolie Madame".  The boutique offered "limited editions" which could be fitted and ready for the customer to wear by the next day, as opposed to the numerous, time consuming, fittings required for "made-to-measure" haute couture.  These pieces were not out-sourced nor factory mass produced. They were made a few at a time, in the designer's own workrooms, exactly as if a client had ordered multiple duplicates of a couture design with Balmain's extraordinary workmanship still readily apparent.  During the 50's/60's, Balmain designed gowns for the most iconic women of the times including Brigitte Bardot, Queen Sirikit of Thailand, Marlene Dietrich, and Katherine Hepburn. Even today, Penelope Cruz wore a "best dressed list" vintage 50's Balmain ballgown for the 2009 Oscars!
The cut of the dress is very simple, while sumptuous beaded embroidery by Lesage adds style and richness to the design.  From the late 50's onward, all of Balmain's embroideries were carried out by Lesage. Beads and rhinestones in a flower and petal design with loads of loops beads creating a "fringe" at dropped waist, around sweetheart neckline. There is an inner layer of tulle in the skirt (shown without any extra petticoats). The gown is in Excellent condition without obvious blemishes... but some beads have fallen off and the zipper just needs a simple stitching on the seam.  Likely hemmed up at some point, and there are extra beads in that hem. The only real issue that is not easily fixed is some staining inside one armhole... NOT seen from the exterior!! Measurements coming... NEW LISTING! Also Listed in the Museum Category.

#6733 - c. 1970's VICTORIA ROYAL, Made in Hong Kong White and Silver, Gold Beaded  with Amber Rhinestones Bolero!  The perfect fancy bolero jacket to dress up any simple dress or slacks.  This is near perfection... the elaborate beading is beautifully arranged symmetrically, and  this piece has the look of a Spanish matador! Geesh!)  Small padded shoulders. Labeled size 8, but seems to be better for a 6 today. Fully lined. Excellent, near mint condition.  I have to say I really don't know what year to date this bolero... could be 60's, 70's or 80's!  Doesn't really matter.... it's perfect for any era! :)  Measures:  32"-35" bust best (no wide backs), 17" long from shoulder to hem. #4648 - c. 1989 BOB MACKIE Red Beaded and Sequined Gown on Black Netting! As you know from my website, early Bob Mackie gowns and dresses originally sold for up to $18,000.(!).. and this was nearly 30 years ago!! With inflation...well, I can't count that high! Only these very early net Mackie dresses (and costumes) were priced at this level. There were many Mackie mass-produced dresses that were produced later (and still), and often people don't know the difference. Always seek out the fully beaded dresses and gowns on netting - these were lined in nude or black material to be worn out in public, but if the linings were removed, they were the same nearly see-through dresses that were worn by Cher, Diana Ross and others! This gown is the same "Grapes" design that was used by Mackie for the Sharon Stone nude illusion net dress for "Casino". That gown just sold at auction for $13,200! These "Grapes" gowns were from Mackie's 1989 California Collection - a salute to the Napa Valley. Black netting with blood red bugle beads and sequins fully lined in black silk. Boned bodice. Measures: 36/37" bust, up to 27" waist, up to 37" hips, 43" long from natural waist to hem. Back zipper. Excellent condition!

#6729 - c. 1958 Attibuted to BALENCIAGA Golden Floral Empire Dress with Watteau Back and Sheer Overcoat! Direct from Zurich, Switzerland!  I've seen enough couture and not couture clothing in my life to know that "attributing this to Balenciaga" seems a no brainer!  All the detailing of the design, the fabrication (I believe a warp printed brocade), the classic Balenciaga seaming, the fastidious hand-stitiched seams, the awesome finishing details (including beaded weighting in the dress back hemline), the sheer harmonizing overcoat, the slight slope in the hemline at the front of the dress, the mid-seam down front, the coloration in various tones of a single color in a floral pattern, etc., etc. Near pristine condition (except for one spot found on one sleeve - see photos). Museum quality in condition, design, and colorations!  This may have been custom-made at Balenciaga as it has no label, and it seems to be sized exactly to fit a somewhat busty client.  I have another dress from the same estate, also attributed to Balenciaga (see below).  Same measurements. To those of you "in the know", you will understand just how extraordinary this piece. Measures: 40" bust, up to 31" waist, up to 40" hips, 40" long from shoulder to hem. NEW LISTING! #6730 - c. 1958 Attibuted to BALENCIAGA Brown Silk Floral Dress with Gathered Back and Matching Silk Overcoat! Direct from Zurich, Switzerland!  I sold another labeled Balenciaga dress with a similar gathered extraordinary back.  That dress was spectacular on its own, but this dress has the additional matching printed silk coat with hugely oversized collar that comes with it.  Please look at the additional photos to see the coat! This ensemble came from the same estate as the other "attributed to Balenciaga" dress and sheer coat ensemble, and was likely made to order in the salon as her measurements are a bit on the busty size at:  37" bust, up to 30" waist, up to 40" hips, 43" long in front and what seems to be 42" long in the back?  This dress and coat have all the exquisite tailoring details you would expect from Balenciaga, including the classic Balenciaga seaming, the fastidious hand-stitiched seams, the awesome finishing details (including weighting in the dress hemline), the matching overcoat, the mid-seam down front, the coloration in various tones of a single color in a floral pattern, etc., etc.  Near Mint condition.  NEW LISTING! #6721 - c. 1961 Beaded and Sequined Satin Cocktail Dress! First look at the close-up photos to see the great beading... which unfortunately doesn't show as fabulously as it should in the photo at the left.  The simplicity of this fashionable hourglass shaped sheathe dress with scoop neck was fashionable from the late 50s to the early 1960's, so it's a bit hard to date, but this is the year my "expert" determined as likely most accurate. Obviously a well-made designer dress inside and out.   At least one "expert" has suggested it might be a collectable Oleg Cassini (you know... good enough for Grace Kelly and Jackie Kennedy!). Please notice the VERY perfect match up at the back metal zipper... only quality goods bother with expensive detailing!  I can't stop looking at the design of the dress ... just reminds me of a fireworks display! "The bombs bursting in air"... you know.....  It's either that or a garden of chrysanthemums.  In person, this dress just shines with the shiny clear sequins and gold beading!  The base is a substantial weight light bone satin.   The dress is in very Excellent condition with the only flaws being a couple of very tiny, very faint ( i.e, barely noticeable ) spots here and there and some mild discoloration to the interior lining fabric at the armpits, just a teeny smidgen of which is visible to the exterior ( beaded ) fabric.  You will likely call it "near mint".  Measures: 38" bust, up to 30" waist, up to 38" hips, 40" long from shoulder to hem. Silk lined.  NEW LISTING!

#5081 - c. 1980's ISABELL KRISTENSEN Turquoise Blue "Ballerina" Dress with Matching Sheer Silk Organza Swing Coat! Two Long Matching Sheer Scarves Too! This dress and coat came to me directly from the original owner who had this made specifically for her by Isabell Kristensen! This one is so "ballerinaish" (so I gave it that title).  Shiny sheer silk organza sheer fabric over a matching color satin lining create the bodice with gold metallic braid triple straps.  The skirt (from the "V" waistline) is 6 layers!  The lining is 1, then 4 layers of plain tulle, and then the top layer of dotted swiss tulle give it the shape.  The coat is also sheer silk organza.  One long scarf matches the coat and measures: 106" x 10.5".  The other scarf that matches the dotted swiss silk tulle skirt measures: 92" x 29".  Dress is 34" bust, 27" waist, full hips, 18" long from waist to hem. Coat is 35" long from shoulder to hem. It barely looks like it was ever worn (though I was told it was worn once).  One gold braid strap show ever so tiny bit of wear (likely from hanger).  Measures: 34/35" bust, up to 28" waist, up to 37" hips, 34" long dress.

#6796 - c. early 1960's Yellow Heavy Cotton Print Spring Shortish Mod Dress and Coordinating Reverse Patterned Coat! Hello Michelle Obama! :) I'm sure you remember her Isabel Toledo yellow dress and coat she wore to the Inauguration, yes? Well, perhaps Isabel was inspired by something like this from the 1960's.  Direct to you from a museum, and it still has the museum tag dangling off the cuff. The dress is so sweet.. A-line shape dress with slightly raised waistline with very thin white leather tie belt.  The material is a fairly heavy-weight cotton of white with yellow embossed design.  The coat is exactly the opposite yellow with white embossed design.  The shape of the coat gives you that "Jackie-O" classic look with half belt at back.  Excellent condition both pieces! Nice quality!  Measures:  34/35" bust, easy waist and hips.  Coat and dress are both 33" long from shoulder to hem.

#6826 - c. 1980's VICTOR COSTA Black Taffeta Opera Coat!  If you are visiting this website, I imagine you already know that Victor Costa's claim to fame is in his masterful "stealing" of designs from other, more famous designers. Certainly Balenciaga of the 1950's was the muse for this huge swing coat.  No closures, just meant to be clutched shut (just like in the 50's). Even though it's a coat, it's more like a wrap.  Check out the gorgeous back! This is the coat you really want to break out those long white gloves and string of pearls and make believe you are Grace Kelly. Excellent condition, likely never worn. #6720 - c. 1955 Bergdorf Goodman  Dated December 2, 1955 Black Silk Chantilly Lace Dress with Satin Trim! Original Owner Mrs.  Irving Lerrick.  I just love finding these Bergdorf Goodman dated dresses!  I only wish every store did that for history sake!  Great black silk Chantilly Lace dress with black satin piping trims. This splendid vintage find came direct from a local estate. The lace is an exceptionally beautiful pattern.  The contrasting blush pink bandeau underbodice harkens back to the Edwardian era. It is in excellent condition, with the only flaws being a few very small, not particularly lace breaks to the lace here and there. Both the lace overdress and the silk satin under-fabric are in basically superb condition. Made with a tightly fitting boned bodice above a beautifully pleated lace skirt with unique horizontal satin ribbon trim. It can be worn with or without a crinoline beneath it. ( I've shown it with a crinoline in the photos). The dress closes with a metal zipper at FRONT (!) and small metal snaps over that.  Measures: 34" bust, up to 25" waist, 35" at hip which is 5" below waist on this dress, 47" long from shoulder to hem.  More photos coming...

#6822 - c. 1960's MEL MORTMAN SO CUTE "French Riviera" Coat or Bathing Suit Coverup! In my quick research, seems that Mel Mortman was a well-known designer of bathing suit or swimsuit coverups. Seems he designed swimwear coverups for Oscar de la Renta back in the late 1970's... and those items sold for as much as $395 back then!!!   I had no idea this coat even had a label when I bought it...  and didn't even know it was a coverup... I just thought it was an incredibly cute coat that you can wear everywhere with anything... oh, especially on a cruise to the Riviera! :)  Short collar, large patch pockets, cuffs to turn up, buttons down the front. The material is a canvas-like denim. Unlined.  Measures: up to 42" bust, up to 42" waist, up to 48" hips, 36" long from shoulder to hem.  Obviously meant to be worn large and oversized... as it looks fine on me at size 6.   Also Listed in the Furs, etc. Category.

Royal blue silk taffeta horizontally gathered bodice, off the shoulder sleeves, straight skirt with two huge bows at bustline and low waist.  As it that's not enough, then comes the massive 3-layered dotted netted wired skirt... short in the front and longer in the back.  Wired like a hoop skirt but all twisted!  WILD!!  Matching dotted net sleeves and shoulders.  Made specifically for Hirshleifer's which is a top specialty boutique shop on Long Island, NY. "In addition to buying goods from designers like Pauline Trigere, Rudy Gernreich, Norman Norell, Donald Brooks, Bill Blass, Galanos, Oscar de la Renta, owner Paul Hirshleifer also traveled to Europe to supplement his collections with the finest in Parisian and Italian fashions, investing in the purchase of very expensive goods."  So this was quite expensive and European. Measures: 36" bust, 28" waist, 37/38' hips, 40" long from shoulder to hem.   The lining has discolored, but that's just the innerds.  The exterior is fine (with just a spot clean needed on the bows). #6707 - c. 1970's NORELL Coat of Deep Emerald Green Velvet and Sable Fur Trim!  Museum Quality! From American designer Norman Norell comes this museum quality velvet sable trimmed coat.  The coat dates from the 1970s and is made from an deep emerald or bottle green velvet in a Russian princess cut. Gorgeous sable fur surrounds the high neck, sleeves and hemline of the fully cut skirt. There are large velvet covered buttons and very wide and dramatic cinch belt at the waist. This amazing coat is fit for a princess or yes, even a museum, and is must-have for any serious vintage collector! Fully lined in green silk taffeta.  The condition is excellent, and the coat has no fading, stains, crush marks on the velvet and the sable fur is soft and supple and isn't shedding. The only item to note is the belt has a tear at the backside.  Totally unseen from the front. edge needs to be re-glued (see photo) and I will leave this small repair to a professional. CONDITION: Brilliant, near mint condition!   NOTE: Doyle Auction House in New York City sold a similar Norell velvet coat trimmed in a white mink rather than sable.  The Doyle estimate for that coat was $4000-6000.  Certainly a sable trimmed coat would have been valued at much more!! #4548 - c. 1935 Black Crepe Gown with Rhinestone and Beaded Bodice in Butterfly Design! Larger Size!  I always seek out great larger sized gowns for this website... but they are very hard to find. So.. when you see them... pounce! I tried to lighten the photos enough for you to see the shape of the gown.  The bodice is hard to miss... fully beaded in silver bugle beads and tons of rhinestones.  The sleeves are open at the sides but cover everything you want to cover as they hang to the elbow.  The back is a wide vertical strip of rhinestones, which matches the design on the sleeves.  The front... well, the front is designed in a artistic butterfly!  NICE!!!  The black crepe skirt has a wide waist front and back with tiny buttons up the back (OK, I didn't button them all, but they are all there).  And then a gathered back to give the impression of a train.  NICE!!  This gown isn't in perfect condition, but certainly quite wearable... especially as you would likely wear for the evening so the very minor pulls and light faded red spots (see photos) won't be seen.  There is a bit of rust on the rhinestones in the mid-front (see photos).  With a bit of scraping, or cleaning, it will come off.  Only other thing is a slight mustiness for those who are finicky.  GREAT SIZE... Measures:  up to 44" bust, up to 35" waist, up to 40" hips.

#5019 - c. Winter 1991 YVES SATIN LAURENT RIVE GAUCHE, Made in Paris, France Black Taffeta Dinner Dress! This dress came from the estate of a New York socialite / writer.  She bought many of her pieces in Paris as she traveled the world!  I researched pieces from Winter 1991, and this is the shape that was all over the runways... a flashback to Dior's New Look... and who better to re-interpret Dior than Yves Saint Laurent who was Dior's first successor in 1958.  Eh?  This year was probably one of the last for "lady-like" fashions.  After this.... casual took over the world.  Too bad!  Love the shape of this fitted wide inset waistband ending at upper hips.  Right sleeves,  Mini shoulder pads.  Great faceted black jet buttons open down front.  If you want to go "runway"... lose the "modesty panel" at the front and then it's "v" to the waist!   Va va voom!  Zipper cuffs. #0659 - c. 1960's CEIL CHAPMAN Black Beaded and Sequin Evening Dress!  LARGER SIZE!  This is the second time I've had this Ceil Chapman dress... just slightly different... so it was from the same collection.  Let's discuss the dress first.  Fantastic Ceil Chapman piece. The dress is covered all over in black beads and sequins in a festive design.  Long and lean shape meant to be worn low calf length.  Side metal zipper.  The bodice has the crumb catcher design with the upper breasts being the only area not beaded... just black netting.  The only differences in this dress from the other dress I had are the sequined straps and a sequined tiny band around mid-breasts. The other dress was strapless.  I presume you can remove the straps if you wish, but they do look original so I'm leaving as is. To see the other look, click here.  The only other thing to mention is that from the interior, it looks as though the dress was increased in size with insets at the sides, yet from the exterior, it seems this may have been done by the original manufacturer - perhaps a special order sized dress. No one will ever know unless they look at the interior of the dress. Measures:  40" bust, up to 31" waist, up to 41" hips, 50" long from shoulder to hem (the hem is out, so just hem to your desired length).  Excellent condition!!!! Magnin & Co., labeled "Designed by Givenchy".  This may have been a custom made, special order "in-house" copy from the department store.  The details are fabulous but hard to see in the photos... so look closely at the bodice front and back.  The front has a "tied up" look with flower... almost like an sheer bolero over a sheathe dress.  The back is even better.. loosely wrapped with two tiny bows at top of zipper and waist.  This dress has extra material inside at seams and 3" hem.  Measures:  38" bust, up to 29" waist, up to 40" hips, 38" long from shoulder to hem.  Metal zipper at back. 3" hem. Sophie Gimble was the in-house designer for Saks).  Lovely soft cornflower blue color!  Expertly made silk georgette chiffon over silk crepe dress with simple straight skirt with two full flowing circle panels added at back of skirt.  Excellent condition with a few issues...  there are belt loops but no belt, the lower edge of under skirt fabric is slightly faded, and there are a few light pink almost chalky spots, one on front right mid skirt (pic) is only one that is slightly noticeable, one pinhead size hole in back flounce panel.  These are all nitpicky issues. Otherwise in beautiful condition. Metal zipper back. I show the dress with some silk flowers pinned on the back - just for fun.  Doesn't come with it. This one is a cool seafoam color in a lightly polished cotton covered all over with a novelty print of various seashells (why am I suddenly humming "Under the Sea" from "The Little Mermaid"?).  Fitted bodice, nipped "v" waist tailoring, amazingly full skirt.  My favorite part are the rhinestone encrusted seashell shaped cups!!  The dress can be worn with the thin halter straps or strapless, and is fully boned to ensure fit. This dress even has hidden pockets in the skirt (love that extra touch!). Back metal zipper.  Shown with crinoline (not included).  Excellent condition. Measures:  33/34" bust, 25/26" waist, 29" long from natural waist to hem.

#9892 - c. 1929/1930 Sheer Reddish-Brown Cotton Gauze Chiffon Dress with White Iridescent Seed Beads in Bow Decoration with Matching Jacket with Huge Bell Sleeves!  I wish I had the original slip for you for this dress, but it's SO easy to make one... just a tube shape that slips over the head with thin straps will do!  Even I could sew that!!  You can even use ribbons for the straps for ease.  Anyway, obviously it needs a slip... you think??? :)  Look at the photos to see the dress without the jacket.  Great to find these two pieces together, eh?  I love the off center hip detail on the dress and the white iridescent beaded bow (VERY Chanel!!!) on bust and upper elbow on jacket sleeves... with additional beading around the neckline.  Also gotta love that scalloped bottom to the jacket!!  Condition is Excellent, EXCEPT I found 8 tiny pinholes (really, I mean pinholes... not gaping holes!!) in the jacket and 2 tiny pinholes on the dress, and there is a bit of unravelling of the hem stitching (a 20 second fix by a seamstress).  Measures: 32-34" bust, up to 29" waist, up to 33" upper hips (that's 19" long from shoulder to hem to that high hipseam line), and 36" lower hips (that's 21" long from shoulder to lower hipseam line), 52" long from shoulder to hem.  No closures, so you need a friend to get in and out of this dress!!!  Find someone you love, as you will be in a funny position bending over at the waist with your hands over your head letting gravity help remove the dress.  If you have really wide shoulders or back, you might think twice about this dress... to hard to get on!

#6692 - c. 1993 RARE MOSCHINO COUTURE Jacket of Deep Navy Gabardine Heavily Embellished with White Pearl Buttons!  Worn by CANDICE BERGEN in an episode of "Murphy Brown"! Valued at $3,150!  Donated by Candice Bergen from her personal collection (kept after wearing on her hit sitcom, Murphy Brown) comes this exquisite Moschino Couture jacket!  This exceptional couture jacket is crafted in an acetate/rayon blend gabardine (feels SO SOFT!!) and is heavily embellished with white pearl buttons in the London Pearly King/Queen tradition (popularized by "Mary Poppins" to those of you who don't recognize this look!)  Jacket features single large front button closure with ‘Moschino Couture’ imprint that matches the various size buttons sewn throughout the jacket, along with hidden snap front closure for a perfect fit.  A red satin heart (representing "charity") adorns the front of the jacket, along with a red satin circle and diamond on the right sleeve.  ‘LOVE’ is written diagonally along the front in a unique button pattern.  Jacket features two front flap hip pockets and fabulous wide notched sleeve. In addition to the Bergdorf Goodman on the Plaza label, is the ‘Moschino Couture Repetita Juvant’, Made in Italy label celebrating his company's 10 years in the biz by re-visiting some of his favorite past designs.  Sadly Franco Moschino died the following year in 1994.  This heavily embellished jacket is in pristine, mint condition and shows no wear whatsoever, with the exception of a few nicks on a few of the buttons.  A truly amazing find for the couture collector!  Measures: 36" bust, 32" waist, up to 39" hips, 24" sleeves, 16" shoulder to shoulder.  VALUED at $3,150! #6624 - c. 1960's Sweet French Cotton "Le Langage Des Fleurs" Sundress! One of my favorite little sundresses! Even if you don't speak French you can probably figure out what this dress says.  "The Language of Flowers" and "Je Vous Adore" which translates to "I Adore You"... not quite the intimate "I Love You".   This is exactly what you want in a summer sundress... cotton lined so you will stay cool.  Charming gray colored trim on bodice and great front two patch pockets. Back metal zipper. Shown with crinoline which doesn't come with it. The buttons at front are just for decoration. Measures:  34/35" bust,  25" waist, 25" long skirt.  Excellent condition.

"I saw it in the window and I just had to have it" where she floats down the staircase in the drapes tied as a dress still attached to the curtain rod!  This is the Moschino lampshade bustier complete with the silk fringe and tassels!  Near mint condition.  Gold and black tassel print.  Tassel straps.  Bow at front.  Wired hipline.  Wear with the front black rope tassel as you see, or tied in a bow (as I show in the other photos). #4295 - c. 1930's Palest Peach Silk Chiffon Crepe Dress with Slip and Matching Ruffled Capelet!   You've seen Nicole Kidman and others on the red carpet wearing these nearly nude colored pastels gowns.  Here's a 2-piece outfit (or 3-piece if you want to count the attached rayon slip) of palest peach silk chiffon crepe with a matching ruffled caplet with bowtie front.  Iconic 1930's look.... with the "difficult to shimmy into" 1930's dress construction.  I have to mention this as you should always have a friend nearby when trying to get in and out of these 30's gowns with very few openings... this one has some snaps at the side.  When removing, best to pull up to waist, then bend your body totally forward from waist to toes to let gravity help remove the piece.  A friend helps you from that potentially disastrous moment when the dress is around your shoulders and ears and you are stuck! :)  Once on, this gown measures: 34" bust, 30" waist, up to 37" hips, 53" long from shoulder to hem.  Shown on a size 2 mannequin... and looks fine... better a bit larger than too small.  Condition is Very Good.... as there is a dirty area at hem (which is hard to see), dirty on shoulder of cape, one freckle on sleeve cap, belt missing, and as can happen, the slip is now longer than the gown.

#6598 - c. 1980's Black Silk Velvet Bodice Gown with Ivory Silk Chiffon Skirt and Sleeves from the Estate of Hotelier LEONA HELMSLEY!!  I purchased a few gowns from the legionary Leona Helmsley - "Queen of the Mean" as she was known.  With her wealth of over $5 Billion Dollars... she was one of the richest women in the world in the 1980's!  Most of her gowns were custom made for her “by Julia,” the personal, full-time seamstress who designed on dress forms in a separate wing of Helmsley’s opulent living quarters! Ah, that's the life, eh?? :)  This gown was quite different from the rest... perhaps designed specifically for a costume ball - as it has a "wench" feel.  Black silk velvet bodice with low neckline and silver beading faux corseting at front. Ivory silk chiffon full sleeves and 3 layers of chiffon skirt.  Back zip. The photos will explain everything.  Measures:  36" bust, 30" waist, up to 38" hips, 60" long from shoulder to hem.  Lined in silk under. Leona wouldn't have worn anything that wasn't special.. here's your chance to dress like a Billionaire... in her actual dress!!  Excellent condition.. just one tiny pull area in chiffon found just under zipper. Great for an interestingly different wedding gown as well!    Also Listed in the Memorabilia Category.

#6702 - c. 1970's BOB MACKIE / RAY AGHAYAN Bronze Leopard Print Lame Halter Gown with Matching Bolero Jacket Trimmed in Fabulous Fantasy Feathers at Neckline and Cuffs! Here's some history for you. In 1963, Ray Aghayan selected Bob Mackie as his assistant on "The Judy Garland Show" for CBS. In 1969, they established a Beverly Hills boutique, Elizabeth the First (with Elizabeth Courtney) which in turn spawned the short-lived wholesale first Ray Aghayan/Bob Mackie.  So... This gown and jacket is an extremely early Mackie!!  Wow... Gold lame and silk in a leopard print.  Empire waist halter gown.  Stunning and sexy, but simple, right?  So for that Hollywood entrance, you needed something a bit more dramatic... hence the matching blouson bolero jacket trimmed in huge spotted brown and tan fantasy feathers!!!  Measures: 36/37" bust, 30" waist , up to 39" hips, 32" waist of jacket, 60" long gown from shoulder to hem.  Near mint condition... you will just need to re-tack the cuff of feathers onto one cuff.  An modern historic Hollywood early Bob Mackie piece!

#6698 - c. 1990's VICTOR EDELSTEIN. London Gown of Black Silk Satin Jacquard with Fishtail Back! Victor Edelstein was most closely associated with Princess Diana as he was one of her favorite designers.  As a matter of fact, one of her most famous dresses was the Victor Edelstein ink blue silk velvet gown that Diana wore in 1995 when she made that tabloid splash dancing with John Travolta at the White House!!  Even the Madame Tussauds wax statue of  Diana is said to be wearing an Edelstein!  1992 was the first year of his ready-to-wear collection.  Prior to that it was couture/made to order only. I wish I could date this for you, but I need to educate myself in Edelstein designs. Meanwhile... it's a fabulous black silk satin jacquard strapless gown with inner zipper and boned construction and exterior button back with fabulous fishtail back! There is netting in the tail to stay poufy. Excellent, near mint condition. Lined in black silk.  Measures: 36" bust, 25" waist (interior construction which can be increased in size), 28" waist exterior construction, up to 41/42" hips, 42" long from natural waist to hem in front, 47" long in back.  Top Quality for a Princess... or you!

#6605 - c. 1950's MARY CARTER by WILL STEINMAN Ballgown of Pink Floral Silk Taffeta with Clear Sequins! I always need to say upfront when one of my beauties isn't perfect, because I don't want you to fall madly in love with this before you know the condition issues. See the close-up photos to see the underarm stains (including one small material tear) and the minor stains here and there on the dress. Unless you have an amazing dry-cleaner, you can perhaps add a matching pink velvet or silk ribbon around the top of the bustline to cover the underarm issues.  The other spots here and there are lost in the pattern of the dress unless inspecting. The ballgown shape of this gown is exquisite!  Better than you see in the photo.  The skirt is heavily crinolined, especially at the hips and makes that fabulous "swishing" sound when it moves. Priced to reflect the issues, but a gorgeous vintage ballgown never the less.  Measures:  33/34" bust, 25" waist (26" if you don't want to breathe), 42" long from waist to hem. Shown with an extra crinoline under (doesn't come with it).  Excellent condition with just minor hard to see spot on collar at back... but really it's great.  NOT top designer item, but certainly not the cheapest.   Somewhere in the middle.... but looks quite dramatic with the bolero.  Side metal zipper. #6638 - c. 1980's EAVIS & BROWN, London 2-piece Black Silk Crepe Chiffon Beaded Flapper Dress! Best know as the designers of Heather Mills' wedding gown when she married Paul McCartney creating a huge fiasco (as well as marriage obviously!). If you missed this.. in short, Heather asked Eavis & Brown to create her wedding gown (of course snubbing her daughter-in-law - Stella McCartney, fashion designer). The gown took months to create, and was presented to Heather at no charge (the gown said to be worth 19,000 Euros (that's $25,000!) in exchange for the publicity. However, when asked about her gown, Heather essentially described it as "this old thing" and claimed she had designed it herself! Eek! Anyway... for you, I have a lovely VERY real 1920's flapper beaded dress of black silk crepe chiffon covered with copper and black beading in deco-ish pattern. No closures will really fool your friends into thinking it's really antique.  However, if you then wear the shoulder-padded matching jacket... it will confirm that, indeed, it's from the 1980's or will look like something Judy Garland might have worn on stage! :) Excellent condition.  Measures:  34" bust, up to 31 waist, up to 37" hips, 42" long from shoulder to hem, 14" slit in dress. #4793 - c. late 1960's Saks Fifth Avenue Sexy Floral Harem Jumpsuit!   According to Vogue and many other current fashion magazines... HAREM PANTS ARE "IN"!  I know you might expect to see this piece on my website in the Memorabilia section as "worn by Cher on her 1960's TV Show".  But obviously this was designed and sold at Saks for that daring Cher wanna-be. Incredibly sexy and small crossover top attached to the wide legged pants with harem elastic bottom. This was likely sold as a "hostess" piece.... but I doubt the woman who bought it could be confused with a Stepford Wife!  Wish I could give you the name of this fabric, but .. it's a crinkly paperlike weight (a voile?) with a sheer white lining (the lining has tome tears).  Exterior Excellent condition. Back zipper.  Elastic harem pants.  Measures:  27" high waist (short-waisted), 45" long from waist to hem. I look like something akin to a psychedelic blimp in this - so you do NOT want to be short and large busted!   You want the body of Cher! Great piece for your collection! When we first meet Young Esmerelda, she's in her little beige suit with pink piping and pink ruffles, then she changes into another dress, which is the only dress I didn't design. It's a Betsey Johnson dress and it's peach laced ruffled. All I did was add a little ruffled sleeve." Melissa Fahn was an original Broadway understudy for Wicked’s Glinda and featured in the Los Angeles cast of Wicked.   Measures: 32/33" bust, 26/27" waist, 24" long from waist to hem.  Short waisted a bit, so you will want to be short, or at least realize that the waist measurement will be slightly higher than your normal waist. Yup... a perfectly wonderful Ceil Chapman beaded gown for you!  So many of you ask for the sizes that will fit larger than a size 6! :)  The color is a bluish tinge green satin (great color... much more flattering to most skin colors then a yellowish green).  Design is reminiscent of an 18th century gown with a beaded  "stomacher" and "underskirt".  Or perhaps that's just taking historical fashion a bit too far.  To the rest of you, it's more like  Metal zipper at back. In Very good condition... there are some minor spots hardly seen (see photo) and two long pulls in the fabric.. and the hem is out, so I will just leave that to you to hem up as you wish.  The beading is in Excellent condition.  Overall great!  Measures:  40" bust, up to 32" waist, 55/56" long from shoulder to hem. Princess Diana in Starzeweski
#6426 - c. 1990's TOMASZ STARZEWSKI Fabulous Gold Lame Jacket! LARGER SIZE!  Damn, I'd give anything for this to be my size!  I have one other golden printed jacket that I wear all the time... especially to the theater.  Just fancy enough to feel dressed up, but not too dressy that you feel "out of place".   Still the compliments will just keep racking up for how fabulous you look in this.  By top British designer Tomasz Starzewski... who dressed Princess Diana, and Sarah Ferguson (Duchess of York) and who triumphed in 1989 when Victoria Lockwood chose his gown for her marriage to Charles, Viscount Althorp (brother of Princess Diana). This would have likely cost $2,000 new... and looks worth every cent!  Similar to a William Morris design, it's masterfully tailored.   Gold lame with hints of burgundy.  Goldtone buttons, double breasted, flap pockets. Excellent condition with just one minor issue at front lapel (see close-up photos)... some of the lame is lost, but it's lost in the print... probably someone wore a pin. #6688 - c. 1990's JOSEPH ABBOUD Fabulous Beaded and Sequined Sheer Evening Jacket!  You should know the name "Joseph Abboud" if you know anything about fine clothing in the 1990's.  His quality and design work rivaled Armani.  Mostly known for his menswear, he ventured briefly into women's highend apparel. This is one of those fancy, yet understated pieces that would be worn by the most posh, wealthy woman.  Dark nude color silk chiffon covered all over with finely detailed scrolls of tiny gold beads, clear leaf-shaped sequins and nude silk floss. See close-up photos!  Fully lined in matching same silk chiffon - so it's beautifully sheer.  Labeled 42/8, but seems larger to me... I would call it an 8/10.  Belt it to look more modern.  Moderate shoulderpads.  Excellent condition with just some of the tiny gold beads missing at the very edges of neckline (see photos of all the places on the entire jacket!). If you want it to look perfect, find matching beads to sew on, or remove all the unnecessary ones on the cuff ends and use those. This will turn any simple plain neutral dress or pants into fabulous evening wear! This would have been quite expensive originally!  Great price for this piece!

#3786 - c. 1950's HOWARD GREER, Beverly Hills Glorious Sage Green Silk Chiffon Red Carpet Evening Gown!  Many of you ask how I can sell all my great pieces. The stock answer is... "it's my job, so I have to try not to get too emotional about any particular piece".  However, every so often, it becomes extremely difficult to let something go.. like... oh god... this... amazing... wahhhhhhh!  I have been holding on to this for many years hoping to some day wear it myself.  But it really isn't the best color for my very olive complexion.  But would look awesome on just about any other skintone.  Howard Greer was a top Hollywood designer who was trained under Molyneux and Poiret. This gown is a masterpiece of sage silk chiffon which drapes up to the original rose decoration, and falls to side trains.  In some photos I have hiked up the trains to show what it might look like for easy walking.  Still fabulous! Back metal zipper. Fully lined. The gown is not in Mint condition, but it's close enough!  One of my all-time favorite red carpet gowns!  Issues: see photos to see one tiny spot on front waist, two small spots on scarf, fixable heel tear at edge of hem of other scarf, minor discoloration at hem of scarf, and the flowers are wilted! However this is a rare opportunity for a top Hollywood designer's majestic gown. I only wish I knew its history, and who the lucky starlet was who wore this! Measures: 32.5" bust, 24.5" waist, up to 35" hips, 54" long from shoulder to hem.

#4574 - c. 1983 BOB MACKIE, Worn by Brooke Shields for Cosmopolitan Cover Red and Black Bugle Bead Gown on Black Netting with Matching Opulent Fox Fur Trimmed Diva Jacket! From Bob Mackie's private collection of gowns purchased from the Sotheby's auction. As far as I am concerned, this was the most amazing piece at the auction! OK.. there were about 3 others that I also loved, but none nearly as opulent!! I've been searching for the Cosmo cover with Brooke Shields wearing this gown, but haven't located it yet. The gown and jacket are in Excellent condition and look incredible on! The red beading on the black netting gives an interesting coloration, with the detail pattern of the gown appearing more pronounced in certain lighting conditions. VERY high slight in the skirt shows almost all your leg when you move. Closes at back with hook between the back straps. Couture construction makes every body look it's best. The jacket is KILLER!!! Massive dolman sleeves and drapy back all trimmed in wide black fox fur around high collar, cuffs, and around entire edge. Fully beaded in all red beads and weighs a ton!! Measures: 34/35" bust, 25" waist, up to 37" hips. The finest early Bob Mackie pieces are coveted by museums. Here's your chance to own the best of the best from Hollywood's fashion icon and masterful designer! So fabulous that even Bob Mackie couldn't part with it for over 20+ years! Sharon Stone's Mackie beaded gown from "Casino" sold at auction for $13,200 - just the gown! Compared to that.. this is a steal! Also listed in the Memorabilia and Museum Categories.

#4315 - c. 1980's BOB MACKIE Fully Beaded Fringe and Crystal Dress! $7,000 Original Price Still Attached ! So WHY don't I sell this dress for $7,000?? Seems crazy to me that we should be able to buy 20-year-old dresses for LESS than the original price in NEW, UNWORN condition!! Part of the problem is that it's only these very early net Mackie dresses (and costumes) that were priced at this level. There were many Mackie mass-produced dresses that were produced later, and often people don't know the difference. Always seek out the fully beaded dresses and gowns on nude netting - these were lined in nude material to be worn out in public, but if the linings were removed, they were the same nearly see-through dresses that were worn by Cher, Diana Ross and others! This dress screams Ann Margaret during her Vegas days. And these days, Laila Ali in "Dancing with the Stars"! :)  So these, along with Mackie's beaded costumes, are the collectable Mackies! (There was a strange silk modesty strap that you step into to hold the dress down, but I detached one side as no human could fit into the dress the way it was. You can easily remove the other side from the lining, but I left it as it is original to the dress.) Measures: 36" bust, up to 28" waist, up to 36" hips (37" tight), 32" long from shoulder to hem of underskirt with additional 4" beaded fringe. Also Listed in the Museum Category.

#4886 - c. 1980's BOB MACKIE Couture Gold Beaded Gown! Previously Owned by WHITNEY HOUSTON!  One of the Holy Grail Mackie pieces!!!  Top couture Bob Mackie gown previously owned by Whitney Houston!!  This gown weighs an unbelievable 8 pounds!! Photographed in black and white for the "Unmistakable Mackie" book, this gown is encrusted with gold bugle beads! Looks like a 14k gold Oscar statuette as it drapes the body like the woman in the photo... less exciting on the dressform. This was not a Mackie gown meant for the general public. This is a couture piece with no lining. It's beaded only onto a black net background, so it's sheer, but only slightly as the beads cover every square inch!  Draping low cowl neck back.  Padded shoulders. Near Mint condition. Measures: 35"/36"  bust, up to 26" waist, up to 36" hips, 63" long from shoulder to hem in front 64" long in back. Sharon Stone's Mackie beaded gown from "Casino" sold at auction for $13,200.  And the original cost of this piece new would have easily been $15,000+.  These are the Mackies that will end up in museums... not the newer pieces that are just "pretty gowns".  Here's your chance to own the best of the best from Hollywood's fashion icon and masterful designer!  Also listed in Museum and Whitney Categories.
