I have seen black, blue and tan, but green seems to be the norm. They are rare to find outside of museums, but you can find them now and then... but RARELY if EVER do you find them in this amazing condition! It's almost like new!! I can't find anything to mention other than two tiny tears in the ivory lining (which is usually never found intact, if there at all!). It's really nearly perfect. As you may know, the calash was worn to protect the immensely high hairdos of the era. They folded flat for easy storage both at home and at the location wherever the women traveled. You can just imagine the coat check problems if these didn't fold down! ;0 These were worn later into the early 1800's but those calash bonnets did not collapse as did the earlier ones. Every hat collection needs a calash. This is the best you will find! Also listed in the 1750-1840s Category.

I love finding these old Jordan Marsh label hats since my husband's father used to be CEO of Jordan Marsh Department Store. Sadly, they are now defunct. Really pretty dark straw (or raffia) hat in a medium size so it won't overpower those of you who look better in smaller hats, but love the look of the larger Edwardian hats. Labeled 22.5, so it will fit a slightly larger than normal headsize. Though it's 1940's, this hat will look perfect with the early turn of the century clothing. Excellent condition... the flowers have likely darkened over time, but look nicely patina-ed.

Click on image for additional photos!#0915 - 1940's Gladys Black Raffia Hat with Open Crown, Black Velvet Trim and Large Flower! That about says it all right there. It's the open crown that's so unique on this hat. Look at the additional photos to see. The base is a fine black coated raffia straw (smooth with a slight sheen as you see). Trimmed in a thin black velvet for excitement. Adorned with a large peach velvet triple flower at front with netting draped around front and continues under chin with velvet ties. There is some slight misshaping, but not much, and the flower is slightly wilted. But it's really a unique hat and still in nearly Excellent condition. No size, but best for a 22" or slightly smaller head. Under $150, so final sale.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the best hats are those that quickly evoke the era with it's special shape. Well, baby, how's this beauty?? Amazing shape, slightly conical, with pierced cutwork brim all in black felt. There might be ever-so-slightly creases in the brim, but it's so slight, that I'm not really sure if that's true.. or it's just part of the unique shape. Black grosgrain bow at back. Really Excellent. A gotta have. 22" label and that is correct. Katherine Hepburn would have loved this hat!
[ORDER ITEM - #3834]
Click on image for additional photos!#3834 - c. late 1930's/early 1940's Gray Felt Doll Top Hat! Love the color... it's a lavendery gray (is "lavendery" a word??). Trimmed with black ribbon and great black feather attached at front. Black veil adds the right classy woman touch. Meant to perch on top of the head, so size isn't much of an issue. The perfect accessory to your vintage suit. Excellent condition.

Click on image for additional photos!#3894 - c. 1930's BILLY LEWIS Conical Straw Hat with Brown Grosgrain Ribbon Trim! As you probably already know, I love hats that have shape and style. Hats started the decade as floppy brimmed cloches, became skull caps, and then in 1934, Elsa Schiaparelli created a sensation with a peaked hat. It "took", and tall hats became the tailored look of the era from the mid to late 1930's. Here's a great example with fun conical shape and trimmed with brown grosgrain ribbon on top and underneath brim! So it will look great to all those people shorter than you as well! :) Excellent condition. Has the elastic to place under your hair to hold hat on head. Under $150, so final sale.
[ORDER ITEM - #0380]
Click on image for additional photos!#0380 - c. 1900 Rare SQUIRE Sporty Straw Hat! From The Hatter, Elizabeth New Jersey! Rare jaunty style summer straw hat trimmed in navy blue grosgrain. Excellent condition. except for one thin break line of straw on the side at the crease. You could dab with glue and it will disappear, but I prefer to leave a is, as it's hardly noticeable unless you pull at it. Labeled 6 3/8 size, so it's small... I'd say 21" head best. It's possible it cost $1.00 when new... hard to read the pencil marks inside!! Leather interior band. Well-made hat! The elastic to hold on head is gone.

Click on image for additional photos!#3937 - c. 1960's SELEN / Livingston Bros. Black Plush Half Breton Hat with Black Ornaments! Interestingly different as you'd expect this hat to be a breton from the front.. but it becomes a molded cap at the back! With the sweet black grosgrain bow... part mod and part elegant. The ornamentation is black shiny "beads" of three different shapes... round beads, squares and oversized long bugle beads. Excellent condition. Body made in Italy... great quality hat! Under $150, so final sale.
[ORDER ITEM - #3651]
Click on image for additional photos!#3651 - 1927 Straw Cloche with Appliques and French Knots! Someone else more knowledgeable that I has dated this hat to 1927. I would have just said "20s". They also call it "khaki-colored horsehair" rather than straw, but I figured you (and I) would relate better to the word straw. Just shows how much I need to learn! What I don't need anyone to tell me is how cute this cloche is! Appliqued with squares of pleated crepe-de-chine and each of the three squares is outlined with tiny velveteen flowers. The front of the cloche is studded with tiny french knots for extra design! Lined in striped silk. Excellent condition. Small size... will fit a normal 22" size head, but will need to be pulled down to fit (yes, it's a cloche) and it will be as tight as they used to wear them ("headache cloche"). You should be fine for a few hours without any permanent brain damage! :)
SOLD#3692 - 1959 EVELYN VARON EXCLUSIVE Fancy Flowered Hat! Loaded with silk flowers, this "good label" Evelyn Varon hat looks a heck of a lot prettier on than off! There are lots of flowered hats that you will find... most of them I wouldn't bother with. But then, every once in a while, I see one that makes me understand why these hats were so popular! Like a breath of Spring. Off-white large petal silk flowers with smaller pale pink 5-star petal flowers for the stamens. Silk green leaves here and there. Sits on top of the head, so you will want a hat pin to hold on. What makes it look so good, is that it's really a Breton shape with a high brim. Under $150, so final sale. $ 75. SOLD

Click on image for additional photos!#716 - 1950's PLOTKIN BROS. "Flying Saucer" Black Felt Hat with Flowers! Such a classic 50s design! Oh course, it would have been worn by a woman with a high fashion sense. One of my favorites for the 50s collection. It's a molded felt in this amazing shape... a triangle from the top, but wavy to create the "wingd" look! Black velvet rope gow at the very top. A large sprig of velveteen pink and blue flowers with one red rose in the middle. Black netting completes the look. Excellent condition. Got nerve? Under $150, so final sale.
[ORDER ITEM - #9164]
Click on image for additional photos!#9164 - 1900's DOBBS, Milan Brown Straw Hat with Wide Ribbon Band! Ok... I'm not absolutely sure if this is a man's hat, or one of those hard to find "man's" hat for a woman. No size label. Probably a 23" woman's size... slightly large for my normal 22" head. Very wide dark ecru pleated band has some staining all the way around. But the top quality straw is in Excellent condition. Has leather band around the interior with monogram "FDG". There is also another label besides the Dobbs, Milan on the leather band "Louis, Styled by George Wally, Boston, New York". The brim straw is malleable yet stiff at the crown. The perfect combination. I could apologize for the staining on the band, but the hat is so nice, that hey.... Under $150, so final sale.

Click on image for additional photos!#9157 - 1960's LEMINGTON Green Plush Hat! I doubt Lemington is an important label, but hey, what the heck do I know! Wow! Kelly green plush hat with tiny brim and wide satin band. Small hat to slightly perch on the head though it's a standard 22" size. Excellent condition. Under $150, so final sale.
SOLD#0343 - 1900's WESTBROOKE Quality Hats Straw Boater Skimmer Hat! You can buy a brand new straw boater hat (yes, they still make them today), or you can buy an old, original with the more attractive mellowed color straw with leather inner band and character. Triple layer straw seen at edge. Very study! Look inside the hat and written in the crown in large letters is "BACON" - I'm assuming the owner's name.. as well as other hand written pencil names that are much harder to read. Excellent condition other than the small stain and the names on the top of the inside. Probably a man's hat, but certainly could be worn by a woman! Under $150, so final sale. $ 95 SOLD
