#0146 - 1940's Jordan Marsh Dark Raffia / Straw Hat with Huge Flowers! I love finding these old Jordan Marsh label hats since my husband's father used to be CEO of Jordan Marsh Department Store. Sadly, they are now defunct. Really pretty dark straw (or raffia) hat in a medium size so it won't overpower those of you who look better in smaller hats, but love the look of the larger Edwardian hats. Labeled 22.5, so it will fit a slightly larger than normal headsize. Though it's 1940's, this hat will look perfect with the early turn of the century clothing. Excellent condition... the flowers have likely darkened over time, but look nicely patina-ed.

#3834 - c. late 1930's/early 1940's Gray Felt Doll Top Hat! Love the color... it's a lavendery gray (is "lavendery" a word??). Trimmed with black ribbon and great black feather attached at front. Black veil adds the right classy woman touch. Meant to perch on top of the head, so size isn't much of an issue. The perfect accessory to your vintage suit. Excellent condition.

#3894 - c. 1930's BILLY LEWIS Conical Straw Hat with Brown Grosgrain Ribbon Trim! As you probably already know, I love hats that have shape and style. Hats started the decade as floppy brimmed cloches, became skull caps, and then in 1934, Elsa Schiaparelli created a sensation with a peaked hat. It "took", and tall hats became the tailored look of the era from the mid to late 1930's. Here's a great example with fun conical shape and trimmed with brown grosgrain ribbon on top and underneath brim! So it will look great to all those people shorter than you as well! :) Excellent condition. Has the elastic to place under your hair to hold hat on head. Under $150, so final sale.

#2888 - c. 1940's Saks Fifth Avenue, Debutante Brown Felt "Statue of Liberty" Hat! Just as we have experienced over the last few months, during WWII, American pride was at an all time high. Symbols of liberty were seen everywhere... even in a woman's hat! For the collector. For the historian. For those of you who love whimsy. Here is a huge felt hat in the shape of the crown of the Statue of Liberty. Trimmed in a brown velveteen at the face. The back has a tuck with likely held a simple feather.. easily replaced. From the high-classed Saks Fifth Avenue department store... so this was for the high-fashioned woman who wasn't afraid to be noticed! Excellent condition. Under $150, so final sale.

#2226 - c. 1900 Black Velvet Hat with Ecru Satin under Black Netting and Huge Gold "Buckle" Ornament! Near Mint and Labeled PRATT INSTITUTE! I find this an amazing hat... not only because it's beautiful and in Excellent, near mint condition... but also because of the gold stamp inside which reads "Pratt Institute, Brooklyn". Luckily, I have great website viewers... and here's the info from one of them! "Two of my great grandmothers took sewing at Pratt (c.1900) so I visited the school and made copies of course outlines, etc. The overall department was the Department of Domestic Art. The courses given at the turn of the century were Normal Course (for learning about teaching sewing, etc.), Sewing, Dressmaking, Millinery, Costume Design, Art-Needlework, and Physical Training (Swedish educational gymnastics). The millinery program consisted of 2 lessons a week for 3 months each for 4 grades. Looks like the hat your selling would be from the 3rd and 4th grade winter season where they learned 'making velvet hats and bonnets; toques and evening bonnets.' There are photos in the course catalogue and one is from a millinery class. The photo shows finished hats on stands down the centre of a table with girls working on millinery projects sitting on either side of the table. I think therefore that that’s a good guess that your hat is one of the school’s designs for the girls to learn from." Great huh! So.. here's an original black velvet hat in a "scrunched" design (yes, "scrunched" is a technical term for those of us who never graduated from millinery college!), topped with an ecru silk satin floppy "bow" covered with black netting. And then there is the terrific goldtone ornament that is curved to follow the lines of the hat! Perfect condition with perfect lining inside. All you need is some hair to pile up so that it perches as it should. Will need hatpins to stay on. By the way, how do you like Brigetta as a redhead??? I finally bought her a wig so I can stop apologizing for her baldness. Oops, I'm off the subject again, sorry! The perfect hat for an outfit like the one below!

#0380 - c. 1900 Rare SQUIRE Sporty Straw Hat! From The Hatter, Elizabeth New Jersey! Rare jaunty style summer straw hat trimmed in navy blue grosgrain. Excellent condition. except for one thin break line of straw on the side at the crease. You could dab with glue and it will disappear, but I prefer to leave a is, as it's hardly noticeable unless you pull at it. Labeled 6 3/8 size, so it's small... I'd say 21" head best. It's possible it cost $1.00 when new... hard to read the pencil marks inside!! Leather interior band. Well-made hat! The elastic to hold on head is gone. Under $150, so final sale.

#3937 - c. 1960's SELEN / Livingston Bros. Black Plush Half Breton Hat with Black Ornaments! Interestingly different as you'd expect this hat to be a breton from the front.. but it becomes a molded cap at the back! With the sweet black grosgrain bow... part mod and part elegant. The ornamentation is black shiny "beads" of three different shapes... round beads, squares and oversized long bugle beads. Excellent condition. Body made in Italy... great quality hat! Under $150, so final sale.

#3651 - 1927 Straw Cloche with Appliques and French Knots! Someone else more knowledgeable that I has dated this hat to 1927. I would have just said "20s". They also call it "khaki-colored horsehair" rather than straw, but I figured you (and I) would relate better to the word straw. Just shows how much I need to learn! What I don't need anyone to tell me is how cute this cloche is! Appliqued with squares of pleated crepe-de-chine and each of the three squares is outlined with tiny velveteen flowers. The front of the cloche is studded with tiny french knots for extra design! Lined in striped silk. Excellent condition. Small size... will fit a normal 22" size head, but will need to be pulled down to fit (yes, it's a cloche) and it will be as tight as they used to wear them ("headache cloche"). You should be fine for a few hours without any permanent brain damage! :)

#716 - 1950's PLOTKIN BROS. "Flying Saucer" Black Felt Hat with Flowers! Such a classic 50s design! Oh course, it would have been worn by a woman with a high fashion sense. One of my favorites for the 50s collection. It's a molded felt in this amazing shape... a triangle from the top, but wavy to create the "wingd" look! Black velvet rope gow at the very top. A large sprig of velveteen pink and blue flowers with one red rose in the middle. Black netting completes the look. Excellent condition. Got nerve? Under $150, so final sale.

#9164 - 1900's DOBBS, Milan Brown Straw Hat with Wide Ribbon Band! Ok... I'm not absolutely sure if this is a man's hat, or one of those hard to find "man's" hat for a woman. No size label. Probably a 23" woman's size... slightly large for my normal 22" head. Very wide dark ecru pleated band has some staining all the way around. But the top quality straw is in Excellent condition. Has leather band around the interior with monogram "FDG". There is also another label besides the Dobbs, Milan on the leather band "Louis, Styled by George Wally, Boston, New York". The brim straw is malleable yet stiff at the crown. The perfect combination. I could apologize for the staining on the band, but the hat is so nice, that hey.... Under $150, so final sale.

Damn!  All you see is 0.00 - but I have to assume they cost more than that! :)  I give the measurements as people ask, but they don't mean anything! Measures: 9.75" long x 2.5" wide. #6122 - c. 1913 Marshall Field & Co., Chicago Black Silk Satin Embroidered Pumps!  Great patent label inside the interior heel of these shoes!  "March 16, 1899 Racine Wis heel protector".  I love this stuff!  These were one of the favorite pair from the last dealer I purchased these from.  It's so hard to photograph as it's black on black embroidery, but it's certainly extremely classy!  Most of the photos are lightened so you can see the detail, but they are much more attractive in person at a very dark black silk satin with slightly raised embroidery.   Excellent condition exterior with just one teeny split at one shoe front (see photo at left). The interior isn't so perfect (see photos) as "she" must have had sticky feet as the insole is a bit torn up. I give the measurements as people ask, but they don't mean anything!  Measures: 9.75" long x 2.5" wide, 2" heel.

#6199 - c. 1970's YVES SAINT LAURENT, Paris -Made in Italy Rust Colored Cobra Snakeskin Sandals! New Yves Saint Laurent snakeskin sandals would likely cost well over $500... and these are just as fabulous as new.   The only wear is on the sole (black is worn off), otherwise great condition!  Nice rusty color will blend in nicely with lots of colors, and still "pop".  Very tall 4" high chunky heels.  Square toes allow for comfort (so your little piggies won't be sliding off), and (ta-da!) the strap is long enough for those of you with a very high instep (most straps aren't long enough for me!) The measurements prove my constant point that measuring shoes does NOT tell you the size! At 8" long you'd think these would be tiny... but they aren't.  They are a perfect size 6 1/2. Excellent condition. Measures: 8" long x 4" wide, 4" heel.

$ 225. ORDER

Approx. - SIZE 6 1/2 M - labeled and correctly sized -
                 works for high instep and slightly wide foot (me!)

Never Worn!  Near Mint condition!  Great pair of classic 1930's pumps... this pair in a yummy chocolate brown suede trimmed in very thin gold.  The design looks like chocolate shavings at the front of the shoe.  Tiny peep toe hole at front. Marked as 7AAA, though I think it's more like a 6AAA.  Measures: 9.75" long x 3" wide, 2.5" high heels (measures 3.5" high at the back of shoe, 2.5" at the crook of the heel).

#4976 - c. 1890 B. ALTMAN & COMPANY, New York Pink Broche Boudoir Slippers! If it wasn't for the darkening of the back of these slipper shoes, they would be considered Excellent condition.  But it seems that whatever they used for gluing in the heel of these shoes bled through the lovely pink brocade (or broche). Pink chiffon and pink satin flower decorations adorn the front of the shoes. Quilted interior sides. So pretty. These might fit you if you have a very thin foot.  Measures: 10" long x 2.5" wide.
