1959/1960 BILL BLASS for MAURICE RENTNER
Black Silk Velvet Gown with Fabulously Beaded and Sequin Bodice and
Black Velvet Bolero Jacket! I'm dating this 1959
/1960 from
my research through my Vogue magazines, as this was the shape of
that year. NOTE: it was also the FIRST year that Bill Blass became
the head designer or Maurice Rentner. He later became VP of
that company and in 1967 when Rentner died, Balls bought the company
and in 1970 changed the name to Bill Blass, Ltd. SO... in my
estimation, this is one of his first creations with his name on a
label! Even without that, it's a fabulous creation! Fits like
something Audrey Hepburn would have worn... boat neckline, low scoop
back, empire waist to seamed waistline and long slim skirt.
The bodice is superb of silver sequins, ruby red beads,
rhinestones and faux pearls on the gown of black silk velvet. Comes
with the original matching black velvet bolero jacket lined in
deep rose red silk! Excellent condition with just slight
velvet crush at back skirt and a few missing beads at shoulders (but
nothing of importance!). Measures: 33" bust, 24" waist,
up to 36" hips, 53" long from shoulder to hem. A fabulous creation
for those of you who wish to feel like a Princess!
