# 7369 - Dated 1938 Bergdorf Goodman, Fifth Ave, New York Black Satin and Velvet Evening Gown with Matching Jacket! Museum Deaccession! This gown and matching jacket was deaccessioned from the Brooklyn Museum, New York. The museum pencil written tags come with the gown with the museum numbers. The museum tag reads: "Possible Bernard Newman" who was the head designer for Bergdorf Goodman and head costume designer for RKO Pictures... designer for some 35 movies, including costumes for Ginger Rogers, Katharine Hepburn and Lucille Ball. I don't know if this IS Bernard Newman, but it's certainly possible. It's dated 1938 and ... S. Blum (the original order and customer). I am showing just the gown at left. Click to see the additional wide shouldered jacket that comes with it. The gown's little bows at the straps are original, but are just strips of matching satin. They can be untied if you prefer it plain. The low "v" back on the gown is lovely!! Side metal zipper. The gown is in great condition as is the jacket... except for the eggplant colored ribbons on the jacket. As you can see, they are old, tired and faded. The interior seams are hand stitched so this was a well-made garment and probably custom. Measures: 34/35" bust, 29" ribcage, 60" long from shoulder to hem. 19" long jacket from shoulder to hem.
SOLD - but on display in Museum Category for Research/Study
