#6961 - RARE c. 1930's LILLY
DACHE, Paris, 78 East 56th Street, New York Gold Cellophane
Turban! As fabulous as anything you might find on the silver
screen back in the 1930's... looks like something that might have
been worn in "The Women". Sensational! Lilly Dache was
considered the top milliner in New York in the 1930s and 40s.. and
even into the 50s. She attracted a vast movie star clientele
including such elite as Betty Grable, Marlene Dietrich, Carole
Lombard and Audrey Hepburn! From the New York Times Obit (she
passed away at age 97!), "She was best know for her turbans, which
she made by draping the fabric right on her customers' heads." !!!
Oh, and at the end of the 1950s, she hired a young assistant from
Chicago, Halston Frowick (yes, Halston), who went on to design hats
for Bergdorf Goodman, and then branched out into clothing to become
the icon of the 70s. This turban is collectable for so many
reasons, but if you are a Lilly Dache collector, this is likely the
Holy Grail! Gold and clear woven cellophane in Excellent condition.
Nothing else needs to be said.
