#6141 - c. 1896 RARE
Exquisite F. O'NEILL MAKER, New York Embroidered Floral Evening Shoes in the Manner of Late
18th Century! Be still my heart! On first blush,
these shoes look truly be from the 18th Century! The coloring, the
large satin bows, the embroidered floral rose fabric! But they would
have been pointier and with a different rise and heel. So... these
were possibly designed for a fancy dress ball - which were extremely
popular in the late 1800s! I'd love to see the original "18th
C. costume dress" that went with these shoes! Must have been
incredible! Green , rose and pink embroidery on an ecru silk.
Oh, and look at the heels!!! All embroidered as well!!
Fabulous! Measure: 9 1/2" long by 2 3/8" wide, 1 1/2" heel.
Condition is Very Good.. not perfect. The fabric is a bit worn
at the tip of toes, and at upper sides and mid-upper back. The
banding around the back and sides of the shoes is worn or gone.
There are tiny very minor age spots and one teeny pinhole in one
bow. They were worn to the ball! And from the look of
it, she had a wonderful time and then wrapped the shoes up as a
memento... saved for 100+ years nearly as beautiful as when new. SOLD - but on display in
Museum Category for Research/Display
