#5564 - c. 1952 CEIL CHAPMAN Mint Pistachio Satin Ballgown! This
gown was shown in a Vogue Ad in 1952. You can certainly see why!
Ceil Chapman ballgowns are hard to find. There are dresses out
there, but few ballgowns. This one is a wonderful and unique
combination of colors and fabrics. An ice mint pistachio silk
satin gown with a contrasting dark forest green silk grosgrain
"sash". Unfortunately the gown isn't perfect. There are
some light water stains at hemline (why did she have to walk in
the rain?), and needs a crinoline under (may or may not have had
one attached originally). However, the biggest problem is that
the bow of the sash as been "unpoufed". Someone clipped
the threads holding the bow in the proper original position. What
you see is my pinned version. It's actually an interesting
exercise for a fashion designer to put it back to original shape.
The runched sash crossing the runched bodice is fine - though
could use tightening at a few seams. Side metal zipper. Measures:
32" bust, 23" waist, 44" long from waist to hem.
SOLD - but on
display in Museum Category for Research/Display
