# 5419 - c. 1882/1883 Chocolate Brown Bustle Gown Ensemble with Straw Bonnet! Wearable Size! How fabulous to have an ensemble outfit! The photos have been lightened a bit so you can see the details of this wonderful bustle gown, but it's a deep chocolate brown silk taffeta. The bodice is a long polonaise with side poufs and back bustle with gigantic bow and silk fringe. Also has square pleated design at bust, and lovely abalone buttons down front. As usual, there is no upper button as it's meant to be worn with a cameo or other pin at neck. The skirt as wonderful detailing of a quadruple gathered (like smocking) look at lower skirt, and two mid gathered horizontal designs at mid skirt. The upper back of the skirt is plain lining. The gown comes with a matching brown straw bonnet with satin ribbons, ecru lace and silk ties. This bonnet is small and meant to be worn at the back of the head. This outfit actually fits across the upper back (yea!), usually that is a problem with these Victorian pieces, but this fits my back (I'm a slightly narrow-backed, very modern size 4 bust, 33" bust, c/d cup). Measures: 32/33" bust, 25" underbust/waist (as it's short-waisted), 43" long from waist to hem, 60" long from shoulder to hem. Quite excellent condition for all pieces, though there is underarm discoloration you will see if you raise your arms, otherwise it will look quite nice if arms are down, and there is the most minor pull of the front waist seams (see photos). Shown with a bustle and cameo (doesn't come with either).
