PRINCESS FAWZIA in 1939 at her wedding
PRINCESS FAWZIA in the 1940s
#5155 - c. 1930's House
of WORTH, Paris Brown Silk Crepe Fox Trimmed Ensemble!
Previously Owned by Princess Fawzia of Egypt,
Queen of Iran!! I'm sure if you had access to the royal
photos, you would find a photo of Princess Fawzia in this outfit.
She was the eldest daughter of Egypt's last monarch. She married
he Crown Prince of Iran in March, 1939, so this was likely worn prior.
Two years later she became Queen of Iran... though divorced in less than
10 years. All this is to prove that she was going to only wear the BEST!
And dresses from the House of Worth were still highly prized. This
ensemble was previously sold by Doyle Couture Auction in April 2005 with
this listing: "Brown silk crepe, the elbow length cape with
shoulder darts, tucked applied neckline twisted at rear to conclude in
self ties at front, edges with pale brown fox fur, floor length slender
skirt, snap closure, grosgrain waistband, size 6/8. Labeled C.
WORTH/62727. From the Collection of Princess Fawzia of Egypt.
$1200 - $1500." Now sadly I have to say that the handwritten label
under the Worth label is gone since that 2005 sale! So sad, but at
least you have a good written history of this piece, with absolute
correctly detailed description. The outfit is in Very good condition,
near Excellent... as there are just extreme minor wear of the guard
hairs of fox at back, and extreme minor fading of crepe at the ties.
There is no blouse with this outfit, so something will need to be worn
under (if indeed you are planning to wear this piece of history!).
A simple matching brown t-shirt will do as it will hardly be seen. This
is a semi-sheer, lightweight silk (perfect for Middle-Eastern weather).
Weighs nearly nothing! Measures: 26/27" waist. Approx. - SIZE 6/8
(check
measurements above)
