- c. 1910 RARE GIGANTIC "Gainsborough" or
"Titanic" Era Dark Bottle Green Velvet and Chantilly Lace Hat
with Ostrich Feathers! One of the most massive hat I have
ever seen... and you know how coveted they are!! This one is
spectacular! This came from a old collection of vintage clothing, so
it hasn't been in the market for years, and it's completely
original. This is the old
velvet, which normally either has a green or blue hue under
strong lighting - this has the green hue, but it's
BLACK under most lights. The crown of the hat is
covered with black chantilly lace over an ecru
brocade. There are black ostrich feathers and
off-white tinged with light salmon-color ostrich
feathers edged in black fur! There is a nearly hidden
whole bird ornament nestled in the feathers at brim.
Measures: 17" x 19" across, 7" high
hat, 11" high including feathers. Still in
Excellent condition... worst thing I can say is it's
dusty, minor velvet wear under (barely seen when worn) and an inch or so of velvet is pulled away from the braid trim
at front. No big deal.
