#4524 - c. 1904 Highly Decorated Sensational Shiny Sequin Black Net 2-piece Trained Ballgown! Wearable Size! STOP! Really STOP! Take a breath... Now you are ready to sit back and appreciate the splendor of this stupendous 2-piece Ballgown. It's a rare find in near mint condition. This type of heavy, glittering decoration was typical of evening gowns in this period, but few examples have survived in such amazing condition. Usually you will find these gowns with the netting is torn, and the beading and sequins holding on for dear life by their little threads!! BUT, this gown is in like new condition! Black tulle (net) over black taffetas, with the tulle nearly entirely covered with exciting "dots" of sequins... shading from opal to silver to blue to black! Like a peacock! There are scrolls of shiny sequins and interspersed beading. The sash and sleeve details are of mid-sapphire-blue "miroir velvet" ("miroir velvet" - definition is: a looking-glass velvet which has a surface that seems polished and reflective.. like satin). You will definitely need a maid to help you get into this piece.. so intricate as to make it look like there are no closures at all! Measures: 34/35" but, 25/26" waist, 27" ribcage, 13.5" neck, 43" long skirt in front, 57" long in back. The price reflects the beauty and rarity of such an elaborate wearable piece in near mint condition! Why, oh why is there no designer label on the petersham! It's a work of art!
