- c. 1955 Early GALANOS Originals, Beverly Hills Gold, Platinum and Champagne
Metallic Satin Brocade Gown of Japanese Obi Silk
Satin! Twice
Coty Award Winner! Again I must confess, I am not THIS
knowledgeable about fabrics, however the person who
sold the gown to me is! So.. I pass the information
on to you and hearby absolve myself from any legal
action if there are Japanese Obi Silk workers out
there who disagree! :) Actually the description of
the gown goes on to say that since Obi silk is only
about 16" wide, this explains the construction
of the gown which was done in very narrow panels. Now
to the gown... A VERY early, collectable Galanos!
This is the early sought after label, Galanos
Originals, Beverly Hills. His first designs under
this label were created in 1951, but it wasn't until
1953 after showing in NYC that his career took off.
His "new" label (block letters GALANOS)
replaced this label somewhere between 1954/1955. SO
much more beautiful in person! My camera just can't
capture the subtle golden colors. FYI, When Nancy
Reagan chose a Galanos gown for the Inaugural ball,
it was said to cost $46,000. His gowns always sold at
the highest end of the spectrum! So... that will just
give you an idea of the quality of this gown!
Wonderful combination of formal gown and
sundress-look bodice with sweet attached bow.
Beautifully made and tailored. Boned bodice (look at
the photos of the inside! As beautiful as the outside
with stitched breast pads). Back metal zipper.
Excellent condition.
