#3716 - c. 1890 RARE Red Heavy Linen
Summer Outing Ensemble! Probably worn to the seashore.
It's hard to find Victorian outfits that represent the
"sporting" life. I've had some bathing costumes (you
know, the ones with the long skirt and stockings - how did
they swim in that!!). This outfit is of museum interest! Add a
jaunty little hat and a parasol and she could be on her way to
Coney Island or Atlantic City (100 + years ago when it was
fashionable)! The outfit is handmade and has an inner button
front cotton lining. It's not a finely made interior and has some
lining ripping and discoloration, but it's a "WOW" on
the dressform, and the exterior detailing is fabulous! Look at
the edged thread design in the close-up photos - - they look like
tiny life preservers! And the lace front bodice with sweet little
red bowtie!!
SOLD - but on display in Museum Category for Research/Display
