#3400 - c. 1809 China Silk Gown! Someone
else dated this gown as 1809. I have few reference materials this
early, so I will go with it! I can't believe I'm actually going
to suggest that someone wear a gown this old, but amazingly, it's
in a wearable size and definitely strong enough to be worn. With
that said... if you DO decide that you can't live without wearing
an actual Jane Austen era gown, Please be sure to wear
undergarments and underarm shields to protect the piece!!! Thank
you! Ethereal china silk weight gown... as light as air... with
slightly perceptible horizontal lines in the silk fabrication.
This would have been her "best dress"as it's silk!
Measures: 34" bust, 54" long from shoulder to hem.
Drawstring bustline with slightly off shoulder pouf sleeves.
Original ties at back, with the lining under meant to be pinned
to close. Very high empire surprisingly gives the busty mannequin
the proper look of the era. All handstitched. Very clean!
Excellent condition with one old "L" repair. Minor
moisture staining under the arms on the muslin lining only...
nothing seen on the underarms outside. Minor seam pulls under
bust. Simply beautiful.
SOLD - but on
display in Museum Category for Research/Study
