#3253 - c. 1893 CONNELL,
Chicago Evening Gown of
Warp Printed Taffetas with Metallic Lace and Original Goldtone
Metal Decorations! Rare style! Hard to find these
"v" front gowns.... and very hard to find taffeta gowns
in Excellent condition. The bodice tucks inside the skirt which
attaches by hanging off the bodice with hooks! Has all the
original decorations, just like she would have worn it. I show
the gown with a bustle under, but would have been worn with loads
of petticoats and a smaller bustle giving her a sleeker look. The
color of the background is a greenish gray, a bit less green than
the photos. The material is amazingly strong for taffeta, and the
underarms are fine! French seaming inside in near perfect
condition. There is some discoloration of the taffeta trims, like
from water spotting, but it blends in well with the print
fabrics. Overall, it's great. Measures: 34" bust,
25/26" waist, 44" long skirt in front, 60" skirt
long in back. There is no question that this gown could easily be
in the pages of a museum collection book. It would certainly hold
it's own against some of the Worth gowns!
