#2839 - c. 1905 MAURICE MAYER, PARIS Irish Crochet Lace Gown with Heavy Silk and
Metallic Embroidery with Silk Inserts in Magnificent Iris Design!
This is one of those gowns that stops you dead in your tracks.
Breathtaking. The gown has it's original Parisian label on
petersham, but the lining is in very poor condition (what else is
new??) I am leaving it as found since it includes the label. I'd
suggest a museum restoration lining. The lace itself is in
Excellent condition most everywhere but under one arm. Most of
the lace is very strong! The heavy embroidered flowers are also
great. The silk at the hem and the silk inserts in the shape of
Irises have silk splits and are quite delicate. But the outline
of the Iris design is done embroidered so even if all the silk
inserts were gone, you would still have perhaps the most amazing
Parisian lace gown seen outside of a museum. There is nothing
wrong that can't be restored since the outlines and shapes for
all the decoration remain intact. This gown is certainly not
perfect, but still incredible.
SOLD - but on display in Museum Category for Research/Study
